Brady should be in ahead of McGeady!

I don't think Brady would be suited to a wing back role, he'd lack the aggression and, more importantly, the pace. If I had to fit him into that system it would be at McGeady's expense but, for now, he'd be down the pecking order a bit.

I don't think O'Brien's contribution frees up anywhere near it's equivalent in the FAI pot. Without it, the FAI would surely hire a lot cheaper management team? Does O'Brien pay the full amount or pay the difference to what the FAI would otherwise fork out?

I'd like to see McClean tried there. Might be better suited to that role than Wilson, who has been pretty poor in recent matches in any case. Reid and Hoolahan would challenge McGeady for the free role off the front two.
Just noticed that formation looks a bit like a space invader.

It's advantage is it's adaptability to switch between defensive attacking and containing play as demonstrated below.

But for a piddly little football association, in a country with one of the poorest leagues in Europe, yeah I think it does look a bit weird when there is a Eur2 -3 m golden chariot made available for the management of the senior team. It's out of proportion to the state of the football nation.
Surely it's down to Denis O'Brien where he, er, spends his money.
Do even LOI fans want to continually keep bailing out certain bankrupt clubs anyway?

Mick would have had us to 3 out of 3 tournaments with a top 2 finish. A top 2 finish is the minimum standard of expectation for a team who are more than likely to be 2nd seeds.
Except Mick had much better players. Some people are a tad delusional but firmly believe, whatever the vagaries of MO'N/RMK we honestly don't have the personnel to reach the heights of '02 qualification IMO.

Centre back, certainly, not sure about midfield. That goes back a long way - I believe Norwich and possibly Chelsea used him in defence at times too.

The previous arrangement was that he paid half - I'm not sure if the reduction in Trap's wage meant his proportion stayed at half or if the reduction was from the FAI's side only. Delaney has suggested a similar arrangement is in place now but the details aren't out there as far as I know.

Denis's support doesn't come for free though. You'll notice Delaney gave the first interview to Newstalk, his last print one-on-one was in the Sindo, etc. It's only a matter of time before Andy Keogh gets a DJ slot on Phantom.

'Giovanni Trapattoni toying with potential jobs in US and Japan as he looks to get back into management': http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/inter...-us-and-japan/

Former Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has cited the United States and Japan as possible destinations for him to make his return to the game.

Trapattoni, 74, parted company with Ireland in September and is keen to get back into management.

He told Radio Anch’io Sport: “I have a lot of offers, from America and Japan, but I can’t make a mistake in my decision.

“I’ll have a few meetings soon where I will decide whether to go east or west.

“I still have great enthusiasm, I want to carry on.”
To reiterate what one of the commenters beneath the story said, I can't wait for the first Japanese press conference.

Trapattoni again questions Irish squad quality as he looks to new adventure

“Half of the players do not play in the English top flight and often the players were not first team regulars,” he said today.

EVERGREEN COACH Giovanni Trapattoni said he is looking forward to fresh challenges after failing to lead Ireland to the World Cup in Brazil next year.

Trapattoni, speaking to Radio Anch’Io Sport on Monday, recently ended his spell as coach of the Irish after they could only finish fourth in Group C qualifying behind Germany, Sweden and Austria.
“We parted amicably after four years together,” said Trapattoni, who admitted nonetheless that his task was not helped by two key obstacles.

“Half of the players do not play in the English top flight and often the players were not first team regulars.”
Trapattoni, 74, is one of the oldest active coaches at either club or international level.
But that has not dampened his desire to take up one of the offers he said have come from as far afield as the United States or Japan.
Having notably coached Serie A teams AC Milan, Juventus, Fiorentina and Inter, as well as Bayern Munich and the Italian national side, Trapattoni has become one of the most celebrated managers in football history.
He is one of four coaches, alongside Ernst Happel, Jose Mourinho, and Tomislav Ivic to have won league titles in four different countries and one of only two coaches, with Udo Lattek, to have won all three European club titles.
Despite the advancing years, Trapattoni said he has no plans to retire as yet.
“I have to be careful where I choose next,” he said. “I’ve received flattering requests from far off places like America and Japan. I have meetings lined up in the near future and we’ll see whether I decide to go east or west.”
He added: “I still have the enthusiasm for this job because mentally, I feel fresh. I’m not ready to take a back office position just yet.”
