I remember reading something a while ago where Holloway admitted his teams had always played awful rubbish until he watched Barcelona play one day and decided 'this is the future' and changed his methods overnight. He certainly knows how to get his teams to pass but he doesn't seem to be able to find players who know when it's appropriate to do so and when to play the percentages.

Keane would be an unmitigated disaster as Irish manager. Keane has no ability in working with average players. He might and it's a very small might have been able to manage our team in 2002 but not our current vintage. I do have time for Keane in some ways, but as a manager many of his negative qualities come to the fore.

However, I do feel that Fergie's comments are below the belt. He wouldn't have thrown the Keane of 2002 out of the club, but he was happy enough to bomb a player in decline out the door. I think he was biding his time after Keane spoke about how he intimidated refs and encouraged his teams to dive and cheat in games. Fergie gets away with murder with the British media.

Ian Holloway took a halfway decent Blackpool team and got them relegated by refusing to contemplate the idea of defending a two goal lead against the league leaders. And he mouths off too much.

You seem to be implying he has some sort of ability in working with good players.

Any link ? As I find it highly amusing that a guy of his age earning a good living at a good level of the game would publicly admit he had never considered you could do something with the ball other than put your foot through it, until he recently watched Barcelona. A guy who would have watched Cloughs Notts Forest surely. Why publicly say something like that.

Re Keane, I'd be very wary of player fall outs with him, our small squad needs everyone on board all the time and unity. I cant see him presiding over a happy camp for long. Still lads there who played with him too. High risk.

Thankfully, Jon Snow missed the memo:

He gave a rather uneasy-looking Fergie the grilling that's been sorely missing from the public extravaganza of late.

I was wrong. It wasn't Barcelona - it was Swansea.

It would be completely understandable if the FAI have reached this conclusion with regards Keane. That said, if a one-sided autobiography has tipped the balance it's pathetic and really unprofessional.

Is McCarthy's contract really that much of a stumbling block financially? Obviously McCarthy wouldn't merit a couple of million a year or whatever it was they were paying Trap, so whatever money would be paid on paying off Ipswich would surely be saved on McCarthy's wages?

Can only really answer that until we know who his actual competitors for the Job are.

How would I know the answer if I dont know who all the candidates are?

If the only official candidates are o neill and roy then i want mick but i seriously doubt that they are and if the FAI are speaking to others who are interested then It would be silly to pick Mick while there could be other candidates available who may be able to offer more .

Martin O'Neill is the only one mentioned so far that I would want to see get the job. After that Im hoping that the FAI pull out a shocker that we havent even considered yet like they did with Trap. I wasnt his biggest fan in the end but when he was appointed it was good to see that the ambition was there from the FAI
    Its really not that complicated!!!

Looks like Pulis might get the Palace job which would take him out of the running and leave MON sweating on the Norwich and Fulham roles.

There's something in the air about MON, seeing as his odds came crashing down with a bang this evening. Not odds on yet but he's nudging Mick off his perch.

The Examiner is saying Ray and Ruudy met with Martin O'Neill in Donegal last week and are due to interview Mick next week. Mick will have a Terry Connor as sidekick with an ex-player as a third coach. Mark Kennedy is believed to be leading the contenders for that role although Carsley, Cunningham and Kilbane are also possibles.

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/s...rs-247486.html

Kilbane favours Mick but says Keane would be good. His season taking over when Sunderland were at the bottom of Championship and ended up winning it was a great achievement.

Anyway, looks like things are hotting up.
