    Mouse moves again!!

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/default.stm

    In eight years did no nothing for Ireland except warm the bench and be an obstacle to young players comming through.

    Hopefully he will no concentrate on his club career.

    harsh - he was still a young player for a lot of that and may have come good.

    the words scape and goat come to mind.

    the guy tries hard - not his fault he's average at best

    Who are you talking about, the link given is one which is
    updated daily (I think).
    It currently says:-
    ==========================
    CHELSEA
    Drogba bid rejected Marseille turn down an £18m bid by Chelsea for Didier Drogba, but talks continue.
    ==========================

    I didn't realise he was Irish, sounds like he can play a bit too

    Connolly is a confidence player and no Ireland manager has ever given him the time of day. What are we expecting? That he comes on and scores hat tricks every time he comes on as a substitute? He's only **** if you're expecting Ronaldo like performances out of him.

    I'll never forget the Ajax-Feyenoord match in Amsterdam when he got two goals and an assist and Feyenoord won 3-2. He's a decent player to have in the squad. He's as good as Morrisson or Lee anyway.

    I'm never keen on being too harsh on any of the lads in green (am i over-sensitive? ) but there a very few footballers that annoy me as much as David Connolly.

    He definitely has (had?) potential, although the similarity of his game to Robbie Keane's straight away mark him out as a sub at best, unless we have injuries. BUT, i cant get beyond my opinion that he is a complete bottler. He NEVER does 'it' when 'it' is required of him. The only time i have ever seen him have any kind of an impact in an Ireland shirt was briefly, and i mean briefly, in the World Cup against Spain- the run and shot just past the post.

    Even then he bottled the penalty shoot-out. I know Kilbane and Holland did too, but i dont think i've ever been so certain about anything in football as i was that moment that he would miss his kick. And i'm usually Mr Optimism. He's not the first player to miss, he'll certainly not be the last. I just think it kinda sums him up.

    Sub at best. If Keano is doubtful, then it might be worth taking him along. Otherwise i agree that younger, more promising players should get priority

    Never doubted Connolly has ability(although not as much as he believes he has) but he always under performs for Ireland. For West Ham last season i always thought he looked like their best player and a real goal threat but I know when he pulls on an Ireland shirt it will be one missed opportunity after another. If Connolly could show his true ability in an Ireland shirt he'd probably be ahead of Morrisson in my book, but he never has and probably never will and therefore is slipping further and further down the pecking order.

    I know Clinton gets some abuse on this forum and some of it is deserved but id far rather have clinton up front than connolly. If Angry ant was have the player he thought he was he would be playing for Real Madrid. He is very average at best and showed nothing for Ireland to prove otherwise

    Connolly scored 7 goals in his first 15 appearances for Ireland (he has not got worse since than, he has obviously improved). We all know he can't play with Robbie so he shouldn't be judged by his performances partnering him. Would you believe, since Robbie came on the scence Connolly has only started 5 matches without Keane as his partner (in the other 18 matches he was either partnered by Robbie or came on as a sub for the last 15 or so minutes). Them 5 matches were against Sweden, Turkey, Andorra, Cyprus (scored 1), Turkey (scored 1 and got MOM).

    At Wimbledon he was partnered with Neil Shipperley and scored 42 goals in 63 games.

    So what I am trying to say is don't judge Connolly by his performances when partnered with Keane. Also over half of his caps were substitute appearances which were usually between the 70-90 minute. If Keane was ever unavailable I would be more than happy to have Connolly replace him.

    But if he can't play with our best forward, then you'd have to wonder how much use he's likely to be. I'd rather have an option for Morrison (or whoever else might be Keane's partner) on the bench rather than Connolly.
    We're not arrogant, we're just better.

    Morrison is a certain starter the way things stand but Connolly is a lot better player than Morrison. If Morrison is starting, he obviously can't be on the bench so Connolly should be. Keane is not guaranteed to play every game.

    Sorry, I don't think I posted what I meant clearly. I meant that I'd rather have someone on the bench who could come on for Morrison (Alan Lee or someone) than have Connolly there.

    I'd actually probably with you there, but we're allowed 7 subs so Kerr will probably go with two strikers on the bench.
