    League or Europe?

Now that our brilliant european adventure is still going and our league campaign is firmly in the back of everybodies minds, including the players i've no doubt about it,do ye think it will be possible to concentrate on our the league when we do play a game again. If I had a choice of finishing third now and winning the intertoto i'd take it because I think the league is beyond us(I know games in hand and all that but points in the bag are always better imo).

What do ye think League or Intertoto?

Winning the inter toto means **** all except qualifying for the UEFA Cup (which in itself is a huge, huge achievement)

Its not like you get a trophy or even thats there's only one of you...

Winning the league, for all irish clubs, is the pinnacle...

if and this is an enormous IF we continued this sintilating stuff and walked away with the intertwobob cup city would receive enormous amounts of money relative to the league.also international prestige on a european level would be raised inexorably, qualification to the uefa cup would mean again buckets of cash and more trips.

its that or national pride by beating dumpland city etc.#

europe all the was s'il vous plaít
    j'accuse!

hey, there is a trophy and it's very nice (and so are the other two of them)

I'd prefer to win the league, but I think the fixture congestion could end up costing us, having said that if the players are geared up in the same way as they were yesterday, it's not impossible.

meant to say its not like you get a cup or anything...

Lads, I'm not trying to belittle the achievement at all here and it would be huge for any club to do BUT please don't get carried away...

We know that Dodge, believe me the heads firmly screwed on.
To be honest, i have a horrible feeling that now that there's a bit of attention on us Nantes will be turn out to be a class apart (even if they don't seem that confident themselves)

The most important thing for the club should be concentrating on getting into UEFA next year at least so we can start all this again, having said that, just one more scalp

the league is deifinitely there for us but i think we may lose points from the games in hand as happened to the scum last year when they were in the inter toto.but i do believe dolan is starting to input a winning mentality to the players and he will try and keep them focused.shels cant keep having all the luck especialy last month or 2 they have been poxxd so many times.......

It will be hard to get back to the league when we're out of the intertoto. e.g our poor performance against Bohs after the home game v Malmo.

However that's a couple of weeks off yet and it's up to the manager to get the player's heads straight when it happens.

I'd agree that winning a league would be better than this run but this in the situation we're in and we have to deal with it, thank god.

For the next fortnight we should concentrate on the Nantes games.

I would definitly prefer the league but Europe has its own prestiege and its brilliant to get people in the gates - i think our core fanbase will increase after european games because european games are of a higher standard because fellas are raising thier game.

having said that its really importent that we are not in the intertoto cup next year and that we are at least in the UEFA Cup because if we perform in that like we have done in the last 4 european games then the club will make strides there too.

No. 1 priority must be to make UEFA cup next year.

I'd rather the league to be honest. We've made a good bit of cash from europe, done our reputation the world of good and given the whole league a shot in the arm. Nows the time to go for real success. When it comes down to it, I'd swap all this for a league title.

Agree. The current run against Malmo and NEC has been great, and if we get a result against Nantes, well that would be unbelievable. But we need to be in the UEFA Cup next season, because I think the Intertoto Cup is causing a fixture pile up which means we won't catch Shels. I'd hate to see the same thing happen next season. If Dolan and Lennox can keep the current squad together we'll be serious contenders for the league & champions league football. That's what we need to aim for. One huge advantage of the UEFA Cup is at least the rounds are spread out a bit more (that's assuming firstly that we qualify and secondly that we'd win at least one round, but why not? Anything's possible!)

The league definately has to be the priority and main aim.

This European run is great for the players, club and fans alike but I'm sure the players would prefer to have a league medal rather than an Intertoto medal.

Plus it's cheaper to travel around Ireland instead of the whole of Europe every week
