Lads the squad for the OT could be stronger but in fairness to the manager I know of a few players that had to turn down the oppurtuinity for one reason or another.
I am sure there could be a case for alot of players but this is the squad and now it's time to get behind them, yes they have a tough task next Wednesday but it is not impossible. Best of luck to all involved.
Still think it was the wrong to not go ahead with games at the weekend, but that is with my club hat on.
I'll update this next year.
stephen hickey has been injured for the last couple of weeks and only back playing recently, im sure he will be considered for the galway game, isnt eoin o brien away up the country in college so not available for selection.. what would ye think the team is going to be based on the squad listed...
pity there are no games this weekend, 90 mins competitive action would stand to all players, lads can get injured in training as well as games,,,
very tough game next weds but where theres a will theres a way, theey wont be found wanting in commitment.. best of luck !! hopefully a good result..
ps. mannix is top dog!!
I agree with Murph, absolute class act and just recently turned 18 huge talent...as for Canto been gaurnteed his place at Lifford, I don;'t think anybody is gaurnteed there place out at Cassidy Park this season, there is a huge strength in depth out there this season and indeed two of the members of the Oscar Traynor panel didn't start two of the previous games before the Tage game, which says alot...But yeah I don't think he should be in the squad but he's still young and got time on his side to make the step up
It's his first year in junior football? I don't know where you're getting he's struggled to hold down his place at any team he's been at either? He's been a regular for Lifford so far this season think the game on Sunday was the first he hasn't started, he was a refgular with Granville last year and before that he was captain of Shannon Hibbs for something like 3 out of his 5 years there at his own age group aswell as starting for that very good youth team they had 2/3 years ago despite been 2 years underage for it
Decent enough player who's very versatile to call him average is a bit harsh on the lad imo, he mighten't be very good or brilliant but he'll always put in a decent shift where ever he plays
Wher does it say in the rulebook that u have to be Premier to play for your county, Correct me if im wrong but wasnt there players from Coole on the panel last year? Its not his fault his team play in the first division, he deserves a crack at OT squad and can learn alor from russell.
On another note surprised eoin o'b and mikey mahony arent in the squad, prob best defender and striker in clare
After the EOB scenario in 2009 v Wexford in the final - EOB chose to play GAA the day of the final and was told in no uncertain terms that he wouldnt wear a Clare jersey again - allegedly !!!!!
I hope this wasnt an influence in the selection of players to represent CLARE this season

i've seen darren murphy play a number of times for various teams bridge, schools and so on and i'll say he is a very good player but is playing the first division going to help raise his game or even make him a better player?? i really doubt it! therefore i said i'd ask the question as to why he should be in the OT squad when he is a centre half standing shorter than 6 ft and will be playing against the likes of shane clarke and alan barry on wednesday in jackman park, big test dont you think!?!?!
butcher- he deserves a crack at OT squad?? sorry buddy sure if your having that attitude you might as well give anyone a crack at it, not saying darren murphy isnt a good player, he is, but arent clare supposed to be trying to progress in the competition and not giving players a "crack at it"

First of all, how many league games have been played so far? So if bridge were in the prem still he still wouldn't of got the experience because Oscer has started early, also I think it's rubbish that you think playing in the first decision won't bring his game on,if you know how to defend you know how to defend,he's being coached by a very experienced defender on his day, so promoted clubs next year to prem
might aswell not send any players forward for Oscer?
No doubts Darren will learn alot from being on the oscar traynor, if hes picked Wednesday he will be up against some of the best players in the country at junior level. I don t even think this should be an issue, the lad has been picked because hes a good player, seems like the manager of any Clare Oscar team gets slated for not bringing in new players and slated if he does

I've heard it all now you can't defend because you are under 6ft?

"Joe Jordan is off to watch Young Boys tomorrow" Ian Darke
What a ridiculous statement..I am a centre half..just under 6 ft and have no problems on the field..therefore i said i'd ask the question as to why he should be in the OT squad when he is a centre half standing shorter than 6 ft
managers will get slated no matter what,, u cant please everyone !! one quote is they didnt call up enough, same person then says will ther be space for 13 subs in jacman park, as for darren murphy , he is a good player, he was called into the oscar traynor based on last season, when he was in the premier, now he is in the first division is irrelevant as for the height issue, if both centre backs are under 6ft u might have a problem,,MIGHT. the good teams play with a strong physical techically good cf, an a livley smaller number ten dropping off the front into midfield, so darrens height wont be a prob
