Duff is a good option but cant go past players anymore. McGeady can go past players but was about 50% match fit at best on the night. We have nobody else, save possible cameo appearances from the likes of hunt and treacy, to create anything for our forwards. We have no ctre mids capable of creating something and thats our big problem.

Jeepers, I hope the squad aren't as precious as some of the people on here.

I don't think there was some particularly ignorant or badly behaved crowd there- with all those empty seats it wasn't exactly a night for bandwagoners. I get deeply uncomfortable when people start to define who is or is not a supporter.

I think the booing was simply a spontaneous manifestation of the frustration and disappointment of many people who had watched Ireland play with a bizarre lack of urgency at times, with a winger who couldn't be more scared of crosses if he was a direct descendent of Count Dracula (who we kept using although Hunt was available to come on and with Duff playing far better), fundamental mistakes and missed chances. It was a game we all felt we probably needed to win, yet a times the team seemed happy with the draw.

So people gave vent to their feelings- so what? If it's something that is really likely to affect any of the players, they probably aren't cut out for international football anyway.

I would never, and to the best of my recollection have never, booed the international side. The only reaction I give to a bad performance is total silence. The sound of 40,000 (or whatever the attendance happens to be) saying nothing is far more effective to me.

Only at the end, as it was a deeply mediocre performance.

    And we are all supporters!!
Have you ever booed Celtic may I be so bold as to ask?
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Football is about entertainment as much as winning. And this is why this team is not captivating the Irish public. TBH watching the game on Saturday morning here was like watching paint dry! Trap's game style is not conducive to the skills of the players and it does frustrate the fans. However, booing your own players does not help nor is it something that is normally associated with any Irish sporting supporters.

Not especially, but plenty of others have.
And I would definitely agree with them eg. v. Sion in their last European game.
Tends to be more about swearing than booing with most Tims...

Wow, just wow. If Stuttgart88 doesn't ring bells for you, you're no older than 27. And not much of an Ireland fan.

I think the user name might hint that he's not much of an Ireland fan...

Booing is nothing new for Ireland fans. At least half the crowd (mostly those in the stands)booed Mick Martin's every touch of the ball when Ireland drew 3-3 with Spain when Hand was manager. Not the whole game but for the entire last 20 or so minutes of the match. And for a mistake Chris Hughton had made. In comparison the booing the other night was nothing.

It's refreshing to be reminded that people were always idiots. I feel better about missing Cymro's nationality now.

No one is saying that booing never occurred before. Dannys op was burying whether its justified in this instance.

I don't believe so. Some do. That's it.

My earliest memory of Ireland fans booing their team is at the end of McCarthy's reign.

not attending games recently but I think after friday I would have been leaving as soon as final wistle was blown as opposed to booing - too distraught.

however - bonnieshels you specifically related booing to being english culture and then backtracked. There's a real need by certain people here to dissociate "proper ireland supporters" from booing and as such associate with Angles (really?) and english culture. Perhaps you have bigger issues with our larger nation.

I'm sorry guys but not every irish national team supporter is going to subscribe to your world view. If a staunch bohs fan who doesn't visit foot.ie and goes to 2/3 of irish games home and abroad decided to boo - would that ruin your pigeon-hole theory that all booers are barstooling, epl supporting daytrippers?

booing - not all that cool but it's going to happen when teams play badly (not unpretty - but badly - poor passing, no ability to score, awful tackling)

Lol. Well I'm clearly not an Ireland fan, as the others have pointed out and I would hope my three years or so of posting here (including posts actively supporting Wales in our games against the Republic in recent years) would have impressed on the crowd. As for Ireland v England in Stuttgart, I do vaguely recall it, but for some reason the significance of the username Stuttgart88 was hitherto lost on me and I think I assumed it referred to his birthplace/birthdate or something.
