Delighted with those bans. Limerick have to be fancying their chances, though Mons could still have the mentality to get the win. Fingers crossed for anything other than a Mons win!

Even without those players missing and us not playing too well for some reason I've been quietly confident of us picking up the 3 points which is very unusual for me as We will still be in it mathematically which is is killing me. It's really dragging out now with Shels still in the FAI.

Never affected Roddy's style of football as the air above Jackman is the same as the air above Gortakeegan.

A draw would suit all three Monaghan, Cork and Shels. It effectively takes us out of it meaning all that would need be to be decided is the league winner. I would expect a draw will all but guarantee Mons, Cork and Shels premier football next season.

While a draw would end our season don't rule out Galway beating Shelbourne in a playoff. Cork would hammer Galway but probably won't need the playoff while Monaghan won away to Galway's top team on friday night so should be comfortably able to beat Galway in a playoff. No real logic behind my Shels claim just the fact that they are in bad form and have struggled to get over the line before.

Would Galway be in a position to play in the premier next season though?

We're currently depending on Harps winning in Tolka next week.

If we finish 4th and any club in the premier division doesn't get a licence Galway (or the playoff loser) will be next in line for a premier division place.

If Galway are able to get a Premier licence then they'll be first in the queue for the Premier ahead of any of the first division teams, based on what has happened in seasons past. Its crazy to think that even if a team lost every game in the Premier 20-0 they'd stay up because another club goes bust.

advice at start of season from the powers that be was that this was the season to let that happen, GUFC ignored the advice initially then mid season plumped for that advice as an absolute necessity rather than do a dublin city or sporting fingal and vanish overnight. Significant progress has been made on the monies front, work has only started on the playing front. The club is 2 or 3 years off competing at premier level but will try anyway if a licence is forthcoming and they survive a play off against some very decent teams. IMO GUFC would have a huge task to take on any of the top 4 in the 1st division in the play off and i have seen all the teams playing regularly as I attend all Mervue games bar the ones that clash with GUFC home games & some games at Drom as well

Anything could happen in a 2-leg playoff. Its fair enough to focus on avoiding going bust, but it doesn't do the LOI much credit when the worst team in the history of the Premier division (?) won't be relegated. In England the idea of getting rid of relegation from the Premiership was brought up today and everyone thinks its crazy, but in Ireland that is likely to happen 3 seasons in a row.

think anyone even in Galway could disagree with you there, but once faced with the reality of play off this season survival of a club will always over rule some goals against record that wouldnt matter anyway as it was in a season when the rules were such... Its hard to understand the thinking in the chopping and changing of the league structure that never seems to result in any better outcome.
A fluid system of promotion and relegation 2 up 2 down and maybe a play off for third place bottom of the premier and third in the 1st division would have done as good a job as any messingover the last ten years, it should be enough to sustain a league and give every team a chance to resurrect their spirit every few years

3 points have been confirmed for Monaghan. I'm glad it didn't drag out.

    Yup.... http://extratime.ie/newsdesk/article...gainst-points/

I said it a few weeks ago that I found it hard to see how we had a leg to stand on since we weren't playing in it.

Nicely set up for Friday night now.
Pat Scully said “ The last time we played Monaghan, Roddy questioned the commitment of my players. It was such a unprofessional comment and really lacks any class, but that’s why a lot of people in football have no respect for Roddy. It’s because he says such stupid things like that, but he's a good manager and Monaghan have had a strong team for 3 or 4 years. They deserved to beat us in the last game, but we had just signed some new players and we were not settled as a team. We know that we have a very strong team with top players, who are working so hard and applying themselves 100%. We know it’s going to be a tough game, but were playing at a very good level and our players will be fully committed and motivated from the first second to the last.”

Going to be very tough for us without the Brennan brothers and Keith Quinn so I'd take a draw even if it might condemn us to a play-off - which is better than fourth. I'd day we'll go with Will McDonagh into midfield and either Davy byrne or big Mickey up front.
