I personally don't believe that the defence is good enough. They'll have 2 very good strikers. If they get the ball, we could be in trouble. And how are we going to stop them getting the ball? Well, Duggan has to have a stormer, and the defensive mistakes will have to be irradicated. Possible yes, but I'd give us a 2/1 chance of winning this.

Trying to toss up what I want out of tonight.

A draw ideally but I wouldn't sniff at a Cork win.

The worrying thing is the way we are losing the plot at this stage and last night was a great example. Totally dominating in the first half and still scraped a win after being 4-1 up.

I really don't want to have to need anything come the Cork game at home on the last night.

So yeah, a draw tonight please lads.

Out of the whole back 5, I certainly don't think Chocolate Wrists is good enough but i'd be happy enough with Hoggy, Gav, Kalen and Danny as a back four.
Greg might be better for a bit of steel in the middle with Derek out but Gearoid and Shane have been playing well there together.

As a supporter, you're right to be bullish. Looking at this more dispassionately though, Mons are a much better side than they ever seem to get credit for. God knows they've been putting us to the sword for quite some time now.

With a weaker team than they are likely to have out tonight, they're drawn twice with Cork this season. And tonight, if stories are accurate, Cork will be weakened. It doesn't always work out logically, but you've got to think Mons should be good for a point at least, especially given Cork's track record with draws this season.

If I was a betting man, I'd be going with a narrow win for Mons.

I'm trying to be positive, just like Roddy.

On current form you'd maybe think Mons are the better bet especially if we are weakened.
But then they've just come through a pretty tough encounter with Shels when our lads barely tried against Harps (no disrespect to Harps but we were awful)

We've drawn 2 of the last 16 since we played Mons last.

Actually, Nults has had a good season. He's made maybe 2 mistakes all season which have lead to goals. That isn't a disaster. His "mistakes" last Friday were caused by hesitation in defence. Kalen is the one I'm worried about if Kavanagh isn't there. I never thought I'd say this, but if Gavin Kavanagh plays, I'd give us a much better chance. And by all accounts, he may actually start.

They're best/only shot is Mons winning Tuesday. If that happens, our confidence will take a nosedive and Shels will have something to play for when playing us in Tolka, and would be likely to get at least a point. This would mean Limerick get promoted if they win all their games.

I think if we get a draw/win on Tuesday then it's game over for Limerick.
From a Shels point of view either a draw or Mons to win. If Cork lose we will need 5 pts to be sure of going up, it will also keep Limerick in the hunt and (in my ideal world...!) they will turn over Mons in their game. Don't worry Cork fans, these things never work out for me!!

Out of interest, which two goals were they?

Our fans were divided last night between a Monaghan win and a draw as our preferred result. A Cork win would be a disaster so that is the most likely outcome.

I think a draw as it keeps both teams in our sights although hard to see where our other result will come from - if it's a draw we need another Cork draw or a Monaghan loss as well as us winning all 3 incl in Monaghan.

3-3 with loads of red cards.

One of them for putting Graham Cummins out of action for six weeks.

Graham's been a bit off form lately
We've score 18 goals in our last 4 league games and the lad has only got 5.

I suspect he was being sarcastic. As well as reminding us of how many Cork have scored recently.

20 league goals for the season. his next one sets a new record for league goals by a City player in a season

I'm just heading for the Tavern now, very excited, very nervous. I heard Gav will likely start, Hoggy too, that gives us a much better chance

    I'd start:

    -------------Nults---------------
    Hoggy, Gav Kav, Kalen, Danny
    Turner, Gearóid, Duggy, Daryl
    -------------VEC----------------
    -------Super Graham----------

I reckon its either that or Irish Vinny starts up top

Draw please. Or a Cork win if it someone has to. Fancy Cork for the win though. They seem to have less ability than us but more bottle about them than us which should see them through a big game like this better than we did.

Huh? Surely putting more daylight between you and third is the best outcome for ye? A draw first, yes. But after that I would have thought a Mons win suits ye more?

The gap in disappointment between 1st and 2nd is much larger than the gap in disappointment between 2nd and 3rd for me. If we're bad enough to fall all the way back to 3rd, and then mess it up against Galway, then this is one of those occasions where we literally (not just as a figure of speech) do not deserve to be in the Premier Division next season.

Good point gormacha but realistically we could finish 3rd if Mons catch up with us at this stage because we are bottlers of the highest order. The bigger the gap between us and second the better for our psyche.
