    Kildare County 0-2 Bray Wanderers

Bray Wanderers returned to the top of the First Division table on Saturday night as Kildare suffered another mortal blow to their hopes of taking one of the three promotion spots.

The Thoroughbreds remain in fourth place, but they are now seven points adrift of the top three, all of whom won this weekend.

This was the third defeat in five games for Eric Hannigan’s side, and coming in front of their home fans at the hands of a side with realistic aspirations of topping the table, it was a rude awakening for the Newbridge side.

The home side were unlucky to fall behind in the opening 10 minutes, a shot from Stephen Fox flicking off defender Philip Byrne and arcing around the despairing keeper Danny O’Leary.

And Eamon Zayed netted his fourth goal in three games from close-range shortly before the break after good work by Colm Tresson down the flank.

    Kildare County: O’Leary, G. O’Brien, K. O’Brien, P. Byrne, Kenny, Harte (McKenna, 69), Rogers, O’Donnell, Kelly (King, 86), O’Connor, Reilly (Ogwilio, 69).

Bray Wanderers: O’Connor, Tresson, Farrell, Lynch, Charles, Gormley (James, 87), Long (Ryan, 88), Fox, Gifford, Grogan (O’Brien, 61), Zayed.

    Referee: P. Duddy (Dublin).

A good hard fought win !
I would have been happy with a draw before hand, but seeing the bad run of form County had been having i had a feeling we would take all 3 points. Kildare started the better, but Bray setteled in and scored after there 1st real attack, with Fox's shot deflecting off Byrnes Arm, leaving O'Leary flat footed. Not long after Zayed scored a great team goal, lovely ball played in for Tresson who pulled back for Eamo to blast home. County never really put the Bray net under any real pressure despite having most of the ball, Bray always looked far more dangerous on the counter.

The Ref was shocking as usual in the eL, some very very strange decisions for both sides ! He booked farrell for running past a player after he had put the ball by him, let Ogwilio away when he brought Collie James down when he was clean through.

Anyway, great win lads, Roll on Athlone !
