Would need to see both decisions again that went against Sligo. Quigley did well to get the penalty and if I was a Sligo fan I feel hard done by. The Sligo fans would have a better view of Ventres dismissal but it looked like a soft booking. I'm sure the replay will tell if Connolly made the correct decisions. Even for us he made bad decisions like Foran was all over Griffin at times and little was done about it. Everytime I see Connolly ref I come up with the same conclusion that he is not fit to referee in this league. He is to fond of his whistle and even more fond of dishing out soft yellow cards.
On the game, it was a dramatic finish. Sligo edged it for me and dominated the midfield and we didn't make the extra man count. We couldn't get the ball in the box enough to create goal scoring opportunities.
Tommy Connolly is an awful referee - but he had difficult calls to make.
I can't offer an opinion on Ventre's first yellow as I didn't see it, but once Connolly decided he dived looking for the penalty the second one was inevitable. He certainly went looking for the penalty and it appeared to me that he went into the contact with the defender. The penalty "won" by Quigley was also a soft one, but the difference was that Russell foolishly had hands on his back. If Sligo fans are looking for fallguys maybe they should look at Ventre and Russell more so then Connolly.
A draw was probably a fair result and credit is due to Cook for his positive attitude in trying to win the match even with a man down. Very few other managers would have made the attacking substitutions that he did and fortune often favours the brave.
Devaney is terrible. Scored a great goal, has good delivery from dead ball. Basically he has a sweet right foot but has absolutely nothing else to his game and is as yellow a player as I've seen play LOI football in a long time.
McGoldrick as said just didn't get into the game. Didn't see much of the ball at all. A bit light yet for first team football.
Game changed completely when Curran and McGoldrick came off the field. Blaine Curtis with his 4th goal in 6 games and O'Donnell running the show in midfield. Mervue were absolutely shocking nonetheless.
I didnt agree with Ventre sending off, also thought it looked a peno, thats 2 huge pen decisons at that end this season and both have gone in our favour, and I think both were pens. Both were also in front of the away fans, the other was v Shamrock Rovers on 2nd May, but we didnt get one in same end in the v Bohs back in April. (kearns)
I think Sligo are a quality side, even with 10 men they looked better than us, passing was excellent and they really did look like a side who will be going into the final few games with title credentials. We battled hard, had some decent chances, but overall I am happy with the result. Keeps us ticking along and still in with a chance of nicking the last euro spot, esp if we beat Drogs & Bray next 2 games.
Also have to admire Cook for putting on 2 forwards, he wanted to win the game, no doubt, but overall a draw was a fair result.

#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), only Irish club to win a game / points in Europa League Group Stage (2016).
Dundalk fans can never claim Connolly is biased against them ever again.
outrageous refereeing tonight. couldnt believe some of the decisions he made. i fear for the league as a whole. time after time referees are centre of attention.
they were massive calls.
Ventre was clearly taken down, no way was it a dive. terrible call. linesman had a perfect view but as always in this league, they dont make decisions.
quigley dived in the first half, connolly told him get up, then stopped play and warned him. why no yellow??? kearns dived over the far side too, again connolly waved at him to get up. no free kick, no yellow. why?
judges ventre to have dived then, when you can clearly see he knocked the ball by mchugh and was fouled, and after not booking their two for diving in the first half, he sends off danny.
for their penalty, quigley knows well what he was doing. running away from goal, no danger, he stops in russells path, feels him at his back and jumps to the ground. clearly looking for the penalty. massive mistakes from connolly tonight
no point arguing on here about it, just watch MNS for yerselves
can someone send me the MMS? do people still send those? email it to me instead sure
With pats & sligo drawing it was a good weekend for the Champions.
And derry as well,i guess.
Bohs v Rovers stuff moved to a new thread.
The referee had no option but to dismiss Ventre. It was an outageous dive. I'm not sure if Quigley's was a penalty. There seemed to be a tug but it didn't take a lot for him to go down.
Refereeing was terrible. When Connolly blew the whistle it was generally a toss up as to which team would get the free kick.
Having watched MNS Tomney got all the decisions right except the last sending off which was laughable.
Ventre first booking was harsh, Second was correct ridiculous dive. Peno Harsh
