They have 'Fergie time' in the CL?
    I didn't know that,
3 mins injury time plus 2 mins20secs Fergie time

Nah; Christian Gross was sacked last year after a decade in charge.

Great game between United and Basel (a pox on you for calling them Basle, geysir! It's a German-speaking city). Have had a soft spot for Basel for years; was well happy to see them not just draw, but rip United apart time and again. Had their forwards been on form, they'd have hammered United. Mad stuff.

Yeah. I get salmon fever when I've too many channels to watch.

In all seriousness, I wasn't in the humour of sitting here watching what I thought were going to be 2 insanely onesided second-halfs.

Did switch over to Old Trafford eventually.

if basel manager had been more brave and left forwards on instead of taking them off at 3-2 i would have fancied them to score again and win game.

It looked like being a bad night all round for the clubs of Manchester of the UK's southern league. As it was the Swiss could not hang on. Well done to the Germans. Some laugh about the Argentinian who would not come on. Disgrace as well though. How many times the South Dublin Rovers budget is that player on?

The BasEL manager left his forwards on until the last minute when they were replaced by other forwards.
The team just dropped back in unison to defend the lead.
They looked comfortable until the sight of a Berbatov uncoordinated attempt at a diving header, probably unnerved them slightly.
Overall a very impressive display by Basel, with a bit more belief they would have deservedly taken all three points.

Listening to the last word today, the funny thing, well it wasn't funny, I nearly crashed because I rolled my eyes so much, but Cas thought that ManCity would beat Bayern and that the German League was weak.

    Not far off there.

Funny I was thinking today about what pundits or commentators I respect and value the opinion of and...

    well there's not many.

It's a good question. I always have a go at John Giles for knowing so little about opposition players (how much is the man paid to sit there and say 'well I know nothing about this {foreign} team, Bill'?) but in his defence he does show a degree of knowledge about the game that is above what you would get on many TV stations.

I don't have Sky Sports (though I do have SSNews), but apparently Gary Neville has been impressing people with his insights

Well there's nothing like turning on ESPN and seeing Stubbs Keegan and savage. Jesus Wept.

Looking forward to watching the hockey and being back to a standard of punditry that you don't get outside of hurling. WHOOP!

Pundits that I'd listen to? Don't watch Sky so that rules that mob out.

I think Alan McInally is a decent pundit, he's very knowledgeable about the German game whenever there is a Bundesliga team in a CL match on Sky.

As "Pundits" (what exactly is the definition of a pundit) go I think Gary Neville is good.

Basel had that game to win but what do they say, football is played mostly in the head and they just dropped back and a Man U equaliser became more inevitable as time ticked by. Well done to the ref for awarding the peno and then getting in the way of many Man U attacks Ferguson must be regretting selling Brown and O'Shea with the number of injuries he has in defence.

Did I see some coach trying to drag Tevez from his seat to get him to move and he refused? Never seen anything like it in football. Was greatly impressed by Schweinsteiger at the WC and nothing has changed there. Class act.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Tony Pulis was asked for his opinion on the Tevez controversy,
"Absolutely nothing to do with me, let them get on with it. Not interested."

Congratulation to David Alan Kelly on getting a CL gig tonight
By Irish standards, he's an excellent ref, anyone see the game he did, Bayer Leverkusen v Genk?
I suppose no harm that the home side wins.

Or is there another Kelly reffing in Ireland?

Maybe "David Kelly" is in your head from all his bile in the Indo.

I like Craig Burley, Johnny Giles, Liam Brady, Richie Sadlier, Kenny Cunningham (although his intensity makes me a bit nervous), Gary Neville and Graeme Souness (when on RTÉ) to name a few.

The two I dislike most are Mark Lawrenson and Damien Richardson.
