He has been pushing fora starting place for about 3 years - only we have been too dumb to see it.

Lawrence is a strange one. On his day he can be completely unplayable, he's strong, he's extremely fit, he runs himself into the ground, he has great vision and a wide range of passing to back it up, and he is very good from set pieces.

On his off days, he overruns the ball, couldn't spot a pass if it smacked him in the face, and will fail to beat the first man from every corner.

That said, his good days are becoming far more regular than his off days. I hope he'll be instrumental in Stoke's push for Europe next season.

From probably the only Irish Stoke supporter out there!

20 goals in 75 appearances for stoke and 67 in 252 over his career.
That's a decent strike rate assuming he was not playing as a striker.

He was playing as a right winger last season, Fuller and Sidibe were playing up front.

Didn't make final squad. Utterly crazy decision considering Liam Miller is involved.

This is confusing!! Has the squad been reduced already? Is Lawrence out?

He's in for the Nigeria friendly. The final 22 man squad for the competitive fixture has not been decided yet (I'd imagine it won't be until after the Nigeria game).

Ha ha! I did correct myself in the Nigeria thread once I posted the squad, just didn't get time to get back to this one before going off line!

Looks like Liam could be starting on Saturday ahead of Stephen Hunt. Surprised if that happens. Lawerence looked good against SA and scored a great goal. Plus Hunt was taken off against Cyprus.

It would be a departure of sorts from a tried and sometimes trusted wide midfield.

Brady was relatively low key though

"He (Trapattoni) is trying a few things but it’s a bit early in the week to be making conclusions about who will definitely play,”
“He’s had two games for us so far, though, one against Nigeria where he played okay and then he played very well against South Africa,” added Brady. “And he’s obviously in the manager’s plans.”

but then hunt was very good in italy. i reckon he'll start hunt but bring on lawrence after an hour if things aren't going to plan.

hunt tends to run out of steam a bit aswell.

Ireland should be allowed "special teams" like american football.

Delap would be "Awesome" for the throw-in setpieces.

In these times of unemployment FIFA should introduce special teams to football to create employment (bobs your uncle recession over)
The sin bin would also create 1 job i.e.someone to look after the sin bin.

Its this kind of thinking that will create jobs or was it that kind of thinking from goverments that created the mess.

You mean like, empty the bins, keep the refreshments topped up? Sweep the floor every now and again?
