Dave O Leary would be wasted on the wing so hope thats not the team. Find it strange that you keep putting Judge left wing when he has been our right winger all season.

Shannonsider will have to forgiven, as he has put Sean O'Connor in our team. How dare you.

    My team personally will be in a 4-1-2-1-2 system and will look like this;

    Barry

    Shaun K
    Purcell
    McCarthy
    Frost

    Gamble

    Judge
    Quinn

    O'Leary

    Brosnan
    Behan.

I know it's unorthodox to have Quinn as a winger, but I'd rather have him there than pushing O'Leary out.
He can either go with that formation, or go with a 4-2-3-1 formation.. Which I also doubt.

Big team selection ahead for Scully.
    Get into them! ( They're easyyyy! )

Athlone Town 0 Limerick FC 1 Sean Brosnan 71min

11th league win of the season sees us join Cork and Monaghan on 37 points all with the same number of games played. Brilliant 3 points tonight. Well done lads. Sounded a bit fortuitious but 3 points in the bag.

How did the new boys play tonight, what was the team? Weather conditions would have made it very difficult to play good football and I m sure the athlone (limerick lads) would have made it difficult also. Well done on another three points, gonna go to the wire i d say.

    .......................Barry Ryan..............................

    Corie Tracey.....Purcell.....Maher...........Frost......

    .....Judge..............Gamble...........Lyons.... .........

    .....Coughlan..........Behan............Quinn..... .........

    McCarthy on for Maher
    Brosnan on for Coughlan
    O'Leary on for Lyons

Not a great performance, we where out battled in a lot of areas tonight and Athlone seemed to want it more. A bit of luck went our way for the goal, Collopy misjudged the ball as it bounced over him and Brosnan pounced to slot it home from a tight angle. Other than that we never looked like scoring. Maher didn't look at the races fitness wise and went off early with an injury. Behans touch was shocking although he worked hard enough. He tried a lot of flick ons or quick passes and none came off. With the formation we where playing Quinn and Coughlan (later Brosnan) where too far off Behan so his little flicks and touches where a waste of time. To be worth anything Behan needs another striker playing close by to take the passes. Gamble played a little better than Behan but not a huge impact in comparison to what Yellow and O'Leary have been doing, he put in a few good tackles but never got the chance to play any football as the midfield always seemed over cramped. After he got a yellow and a warning about getting a red later I thought he was sure to be substituted off but instead Lyons (one of the only players being creative) was taken off. If Gamble had got a second yellow we would have been in trouble.

Purcell and Frost for Limerick and Colbert for Athlone where the three outstanding players tonight. The formation needs to be changed back to 4-4-2. The midfield is too cramped and when a pass is needed to be made there is never a winger available. I feel Frost and Tracey are being left very exposed too.

Hopefully with that first game under the belts of the new players they can up it for Monaghan next week.

Agree about the formation, good going forawrd if you have mobile players but uesless in defence and useless in the first division of the LOI.

It has to be a victory tonight as all our rivals collected maximum points last week. I think Limerick will win by at least 2 goals.
Team selection would be the same as Bluepowers
we were lucky, the b ioys were up for it

Purcell was absolutely shocking at times tonight in my opinion.

Didnt think Gamble did too much wrong.

Think we tried to give the ball to Gamble way too much some times when he was surrounded by players and there was easier passes they were still looking for him.
Behan seriously needs to get fit and theres no point playing him unless he has someone up there with him like you said.

Signing Maher with his injury record has proved to be a terrible decision back to 2 centre backs now for the end of the season wouldnt trust him to be fit for many games.

Brosnan did well to finish after Collas mistake.

I was only going by the extratime.ie updates but the guy reporting said Behan looked unfit as it went on, but that will come.

It seems we were lucky, could maybe have lost this one but dug out an away win with a clean sheet, a winner from an opposition error in a tricky tight game while not at our best. Like teams in the mix for promotion are meant to do. Well done, move on.

I have a feeling Longford will take something from Cork next Saturday, if we can do our work at home to Monaghan, we could be clear in second.

I thought Purcell had to do the job of two centre backs until McCarthy came on and was excellent in the air. A few dodgy moments on the ground but did well barr that.

Athlone where always going to be really up for that match last night and probably deserved a draw out of it.

We've proven we can take the points that need to be grinded out now its time to show we can take them against the top teams with the pressure on. Hopefully against Monaghan is where Gamble can show his class. Play the same formation as yesterday though and there is no point in even playing him.

Agree with most of the above. We've been hanging for us to start picking up results we possibly didn't deserve and last night showed we're getting there now. We debuted 3 new players in the starting 11 so developing a good flow was always going to be difficult. Athlone did a great job closing us down which made it even tougher. Thought Gamble showed some class and Yellow did well, but 3 in midfield is tough, it needs the other front men (Coughlan and Quinn) to do a little more work to provide cover and be a bigger threat to their back 4, or the boys eventually get over run in midfield.

Ya i agree with that i meant more when he had the ball a few times didnt even look around just hoofed it up the pitch to no-one same with McCarthy i know they are centre backs but just hoofing it like that ruins chances of starting attacks and got very frustrating.

Think it should be 442 with Gamble and O Leary in the middle for Monaghan.
