Exactly the point most people involved in soccer in Galway make .The 3 clubs are not from the same county lads they are all city clubs and if this happened in any other City in the country the existing club would have blocked it but the people running our club at the time decided that we should roll over for the good of Galway Soccer.

i wouldnt be too worried about salthill, the rumour doing the rounds is they are to finish out this year and then drop back to junior football!!! and in mervues case, the club is run as two separate clubs, with the loi squads and the junior and underage sets!! and the way mervue have been going this year their future looks bright, i have lost count of the amount of underage trophies they have won, as well as their junior team doing a league and cup double, add to that the loi squad improving and the under 19's in the elite division!!!

galway got themselves into the mess by hiring lesson. i really hope gust can save the club and rebuild for the future but critisising mervue and salthill is unfair and they have underage set ups/own facilities, galway united have nothing!!!

I don't think GUFC fans are blaming the other two clubs being in the league for this situation. It's mostly fans of other clubs who are bringing them up.

GUFC's problem is the disastrous running of the club over the last 5 or 6 years.

    most GUFC

supporters dont see the other 2 as being the problem. The GUFC problem is 35 years old and you cant blame that on 2 clubs who are in the league 2 years and earned the right to be there. GUFC dont own one set of goal nets. That GUFCs fault no one elses. Another point i make is that with over 60 players gaining LOI playing experience in Galway this can only be a good thing. When they come to GUFC if we retain our competitive advantages of bigger crowds, higher division and the pride of wearing your county colors they will have some experience like we see with Mickey Gilmore now and wont be coming from junior leagues which is a big ask and takes 3 years to get a players head round the step up, e.g Stevie Walsh

This is an opportunity now to flush the remaining ****e down the drain and finally put assets in place that really develop a club not a get together every second friday night of a few lads some of whom call themselves "professional" and expect to win anything and expect to fool the people of galway they are of the "community" playing for the jersey or give a **** about the people that are handing the money in the gate.

Thanks to the fools of dub based journos that are completely clueless writing stupid ill informed articles in rag bag papers and getting it arse about face about whats actually happening down here

Its a great way to launch our season of fundraisers and gain national coverage. We now have to continue on walking the walk

If the worst came to the worst and Galway United shut down, would the fans go to support Mervue United, Salthill Devon or no one?

Sorry, but when it comes to Galway, they can go do one. As far as I'm concerned, 2006 won't be forgotten until they're relegated and earn their place in the Premier Division on the pitch.

and to think, that video (showing other clubs facilities) and their fictitious "crowds" impressed the FAI so much that they promoted them

In fairness, Mervue and Salthill did earn their place by right. There was others clubs about: Cobh, Carlow, Tralee, Tullamore and Castlebar. None of these were able to make the step up like the two Galway teams.

Since Mervue won promotion in '08 and Salthill in '09, no other club has been able to win promotion after season playing in the Championship. At least they earned their right to be in a position for promotion based on being the best first team club in the A Championship.

Salthill should edit it a very small bit and resubmit it. Possible promotion on the cards for them then.

The other club were being paid a five figure for the use of that facility for Training no one said it was ours and all the match footage was the game against Shamrock Rovers in the first when there was almost 4,000 people at it before the new stand was built.

Well in fairness Cousins should have said we "use" a great facility out in Drom. He actually said "we have" a great facility in Drom and "we have" a gym and we have a television upstairs for analyzing and so on. He gave the impression it was Galway Utds.

Galway won promotion according to the rules one season. A Limerick player scoring in Tolka Park won Dundalk promotion according to the rules another season. Both clubs needed outside help to go up and got them. What's there to be bitter about?

It disgusts me. We were cheated out of premier football to allow Galway in and they are about to fold. Shame on everyone who screwed us over. Oh and before I get in trouble, I have left the management committee at Mons so am speaking purely as a fan.

Am gutted for Galway fans though.

This pretty much sums it up.

We all remember the arrogance, the nonsense, the bullspit, and the fact that they piddled money at the first team in the Premier without doing a tap in the background is a damning indictment of all involved.

But tis harsh all the same.

The people currently doing their best to rescue the situation and not see players and local creditors shafted had absolutely no input in how the club was run until a few days before this season started. They were routinely lied to and deceived by Leeson. You will more than likely counter with a comment such as "He's Nick Leeson, what the f did you expect". That is true, but we didn't employ him or allow him to become a member of the board.

Well done, what a great crack at us that was and original too.

I understand your anger, but must point out that the number one reason the club is in such a state is Nick Leeson and those who allowed him to do so, his employers and fellow directors of the club. Not to mention that the directors (allegedly) seem to have been borrowing in the name of the club and then spinning it to the public as money they were investing personally.

The FAI are not far behind either. If their procedures for implementing the sham of licensing process had any level of common ****ing sense applied to it, there wouldn't be an asterisk on the league table every ****ing year. As recently as this month someone in the FAI remarked upon how well the club ran things a few years ago. You couldn't make it up.

Blame can be laid in a few places, but not at the feet of those currently doing their utmost to right the wrongs of the last five years and the culture that has existed at Galway United for far longer.

Always a great trip, certainly the best away trip in terms of before and after the game, for overnighters (and recently during the game too...), so very sad to see the state of the club. The game in that video was a good game except for the result, great crowd...looked like Rovers weren't going to finish top that night.

A regular source of three points, beating Bohs home and away, good away support, welcoming fans, 'took' a promotion spot from Dundalk...they'll be missed by a lot of Hoops while they regroup. Hopefully it's a quick rebound
    The Model Club

Tell all the Bohs you know
that we've gone and won two-in-a-row
and it's not gonna be three
and it's not gonna be four
it's more likely to be 5-1.
