I can state that Town have pulled out of John Delaney Cup but it has nothing to do with the youths situation its that they had other commitments made in another tournament and to be honest im glad we pulled out of it especially after what happened the youths i know a lot of people wont agree with it but thats life.

Well said Chops - correct. Town wanted to take part in some tournament and they were told go ahead, John Delaney cup was optional.

Wasn't aware there was an exodus from Clonmel Town. Who have they lost from the team which played their last league game against St.Michaels?

It has just been confirmed by TSDL Committee after a meeting with the Clubs that they will only have an U18 League (players born 1994-95) There was talk of an U19 League but most clubs could not put out both 18's and 19's on the same Day. This means due to FAI's new age re alinement, last season's U15's and U16's will be playing Youths.

This means that players born 1993 will be missing out on their last year of youths.

    Foot.ie!

ya they will miss out alright on there last year youths. be interesting to see what happens with other leagues. i think cork and waterford are going with u17 + u19 leagues this year to compensate for the year skip. i feel the best decision was made in tsdl remaining with just the 18s alot of the smaller clubs would not be able to get out a 17s team and 19s team on the same day. so if the majority voted for an 18s league not gonna argue with that tough alright on the lads who miss out on there last year youths. was not at meeting but im assuming other viable options would have been to push youths out to 19s for one season or to run the 19s on a saturday and put 17s games on a sunday( although refs could be an issue in this). with the new national u19league starting this autumn i thought the fai might have rolled out u19 football at all levels instead of u18.
if it wasnt for birds and booze id have played for ireland juniors!!!!!

Theres two sides to it really. Its not nice to see 17/18 year olds having to go straight into juniors. On the other hand, clubs may feel that they will be losing a lot of these players (born 1993) to college and other commitments this season anyways. For example, there were very few lads in my own club born 1992 playing Youths last season.

Did I hear right that tommy Lewis has recieved an honory award/ position from the fai recently ? If so I think it's a just reward for a man who has done so much for the tsdl
I don't think all of us would agree with all he says and does but there is no doubting the mans honesty and integrity

Maybe Town did move for Waters but he chose Celtic instead. Are you sure the John Delaney cup is 'optional'? I would imagine you would have to have a very good reason not to participate. I'm sure Tommy Lewis would not be too happy bringing John Delaney down to a final of a competition that didn't feature any of the bigger teams in Tipperary.

The John Delaney is optional alright. Its a pre-season tournament and I think the only obligation is the TSDL supply 4 teams with North Tipp doing likewise. With Clonmel Town opting out I would say Cashel Town will be invited as they finished 5th in Premier league. Its a good pre-season tournament - the winners receive a full strip, trophy and set of medals. I think international tickets are also thrown in but not sure on that. Runners-up receive medals and supply of footballs while the semi-finalists also receive footballs. I'd say a full strip and footballs are expensive nowadays.
To reply to Rightboy, I enquired regarding what award did Tommy Lewis receive. He was made a Life Member of the F.A.I. Seemingly one person is made a Life Member each year and he was that person for 2011.

i dont know is this john delaney cup any benefit for town/celtic/michaels, i doubt a manager would think it would be ideal for his team to be showing his cards so early in the season in what is a meaninless competition, playing the top teams isnt ideal, any thoughts?

Thanks no-nonsense ref info on award
As for the Delaney cup at the start if season I think it us very beneficial for any team manager in terms of fitness match practice in a competitive environment as opposed to challenge games u don't really have that intensity u need so in that respect I think it's a very good competition and at the end of day you do get medals for it and as we know players like to get medals ok it's not the fai or mjc as would be the priority but I think in time it will be just as important to win as your tipp cup any thoughts guys on this
