    Is this O'Wafflessy again?

also in tonight leader there is a quote (unknown who from) which goes...."what a great tradition of soccer in Limerick, which is still alive and living in people like Michael O'Sullivan, John Purcell and Ralph McMahon. he didnt close the quotation marks so im not sure if its a quote or is it just him naming three members of the team as he sees it at the moment.

Guys we need good press and positive messages to try and get some businessmen to invest in the club.

We complain when John O'S writes negative stuff so lets take the positive messages too.

I take your point on board g, but I don't think that they deserve any praise.

They have brought the club to it's knees. They have failed completely in what they set out to do. I don't think that it is through badness on their part, simply an inability to complete the tasks that have been set out for them.

Everyone knows this, business men and all, and it is no surprise that no-one will invest while the current committee reign.

Point taken but is there an alternative? I don't see a rival consortium ready to come in and take over. Or even a small scale Roman Abramovic.

If the current board walked away I think we'd lose senior football in the city possibly even for 5-10 years. It won't be easy to get back as the licencing requirements would be a lot more stringent to join the league rather than to stay in.

This is a good debate. I understand your point, but I really don't believe that they are trying to meet the licencing requirements. The SC has yet to be told about what has to be done and the deadlines which have to be kept. I think that if they continue to remain involved we will see the death of Limerick senior soccer as you fear will happen if they step down. As it is we are a waste of space in the league. We add nothing to the league and a strong argument could be made that the EL would be a stronger entity without Limerick FC. It is clear from the disaster this season is becoming that they have no interest in the team, only in keeping the limited company in existence until the Market's Field (and the nice payday that comes with it arrives) when they are bought out by whatever developer is involved.

I have to take Deises side on this one Gary. These people, through sheer ignorance and arrogance have seriously damaged the faith of the supporters of this club who are in the know as to what their(committee) intentions are. There is contempt for the supporters club, which is evident in the lack of communication, and as long as this exists then the club will always be at a disadvantage.Everybody should be united in a desire to see the club successful, yet these three have done everything to alienate people.
They are not good for the club.I don't agree with the "any committee of busisnessmen is better than none" philosophy. They should leave now,and let those who care have a go....god knows, it can't get much worse.

As you may not know my Dad was one of the people that handed it over to Father Joe - however I still think it was the correct deicison and best for the club. I know what he went through just to keep the club alive when the Graces walked away. Fr. Joe wasn't the worst either - he was genuine albeit in trying to do something for the people of Southill rather than for Limerick Football

BTW I'd also gladly go back to Rathbane in the morning although the Markets Field would be the rpeferred venue.

    I don't have the answer I wish I did.

However the club needs a serious financial injection.

If the 3 boys walked away tomorrow is there anyone there to takeover and run the club and provide the required finance?

It probably needs 1 or 2 fulltime people now to run the club properly and serious capital to build the infrastructure re a stadium (Pike Field, Markets Field wherever) I'd gladly live with being hammered every week if the club was rebuilding - Kilkenny are a perfect example chose to invest in the facilities and infrastructure. they have no tradition there - it's a hurling stronghold yet they have a ground to be proud of and can look to build a decent team now that they can take advantage of success.

    Good point about Kilkenny.

All of your ideas are perfect, but it all falls on one point that can make or break the club - whether or not the three amigos are doing the business.

Personally, I have yet to see them make any progress in regards the licencing. We all know of the "full-time" contract that was supposedly signed at the start of the year. This and other signs point to a completely disorganised set-up who are shutting themselves away from the public.

If they manage to salvage teh club I will be the first to offer congradulations to them but I don't ever expect to be put into that position.

The Markets Field is a very key element to these three still being around. I know that a pretty famous property developer who is very synonymous in Irish rugby circles has been in negotiations with them on the purchase of the Markets Field, providing he gets his fair share of land to develop, but afaik there is some planning issues that need sorting, and he's not going to make any further moves until he gets his guarantees.
The FAI should be brought in on this, and create a full time position with a decent salary to someone in the know, preferrably an outsider with no prejudices or issues, to completely overhaul the running of the club, and generate fresh faces and ideas.
