    Mervue

Mervue's dominance up front in the second-half, together with lots of assistance from the Wexford defence, meant that Mervue ran out comfortable winners in Galway tonight. With Patsy and Craig suspended, Wexford started with a rebuilt midfield with Packie, Shane, Karl, Murt, Deano, Kevin, Greg, Ben, Muzzi and Danny and Dara up front. Wexford started the busier and, playing with the wind, had four corners in the first five minutes. They should have scored from the third, when a near-post header by, I think, Muzzi was pushed out by Hanley in the Mervue goal but the rebound was drilled over the Mervue bar. About six minutes gone, Danny just couldn't reach a good low cross by Shane from the right. This proved to be Wexford's quota of reasonable chances for the night, however.

After ten, Shane got a yellow for the second of two tackles. After fifteen, Mervue had their first effort when a forward volleyed when in the clear and found by a cross. After twenty, Goldbey should have scored when he nodded wide at the far post when five yards out and pretty much clear. With fifteen to go in the half, Danny got a yellow for diving when he seemed to be impeded in the Mervue box. Game then petered out in the heavy rain for nil-nil a half-time. Second hald began quiet enough and after five, Gaffney got a yellow for impeding a defender for the second time. Game then radically turned in favour of Mervue when from a corner, a free header from Varley well beyond the far post seemed to catch Packie by surprise and he could only help it into the net for one-nil. A minute later, three failed efforts by Wexford to clear the ball in their own half left King on his own about fifteen out and a reasonably simple volley was blasted past Packie for two-nil. Gareth then made a welcome return from injury in place of Muzzi. About mid-way through the second-hald, Eoin Kinsella came on for Kevin and slotted into midfield.

With fifteen to go, a cross from the left by Mervue was put away by King of Mervue for 3-0. In the last few minutes, Ben had the only shot on target of the half for Wexford when his low free-kick from just outside the box was saved comfortably by Hanley. Couldn't fault Wexford's effort on the night but the quality isn't really there at the moment. 3-0 at full-time with Shane doing well at right back and Gareth looking lively during his stint.

This season is becoming increasingly frustrating, two weeks after beating Derry we concede 9 goals in two games. Its hard to know what will happen for the rest of the season, hopefully a few quality players will be added to the squad, we certainly need someone or something. The way things are going we'll be lucky to finish ahead of Salthill
