Another disapointing display from the Limerick District Schoolboy league who are the managers and what kind of coaching are they kids getting.
I watchd them play and couldent really see any structure or organisation surely we should be doing a lot better than this with the talent we have.

I only saw one of their games and I'd agree. Heard that the managers weren't left pick the squad until February by the district league. You won't win anything if that's the case. I know the north dublin lads and they've had their squad since u10s ffs.

Story of the week was undoubtedly North Tipp, a shambles up to a few years ago 30th, 29th, 32nd, 32nd etc. and always seeded 32nd. Their u12s won the Cashin Cup last month, 5 of that team were on the pitch last Monday for their 2-0 win v 6th seeds Kerry. Unlucky to lose 2-1 in 1/4 final v eventual winners N Dublin, a match they played without their main playmaker, who's playing again next year. If North Tipp can do this at a time when juvenile hurling there is stronger than ever, why can't the likes of Limerick District with their pick of players from traditional schoolboy strongholds? Get them young, 9/10 year olds into futsal academies and give them good habits on and off the fields. Embrace Futsal, Emerging Talent, etc. ideally with a group of young hungry coaches and once you start doing the right thing then results will follow. Out with the old, in with the new...... no names mentioned..
Congrats also to Carlow, West Cork, Limerick Desmonds, Midlands, Kilkenny all lower seeds who had great weeks. It's time we all stopped bowing down in fear to the DDSL

What's the rule regarding the use of younger players? Do some leagues allow u12s to compete and others not or is there a tournament rule?

It's up to each league individually. Personally, I believe that it's the obligation of each league to bring it's best 20 players to UL every June no matter what age they are. If it's a tight call between a 12 year old that won't be good enough for game time in a tight situation, and a 13 year old of similiar ability that has spent 3 years in the ET programme, then maybe bring the latter on condition that the player knows he will see very little game time. Managing both player's and parent's expectations around this situation can be tricky, but can be done if it's rolled out properly to all concerned when academy players enter the programme at 10//11 years of age.
