    List of LOI books

I looked for some books about general LOI history, but haven't found a hell of a lot.

I thought it might be useful to have a list of books (assuming it hasn't been done already) of both general books and ones specific to clubs.

I will keep this post updated if anyone decides to post additions. Thanks.

For Bray Wanderers (off the top of my head): Tales of the Wanderers, Colm Keane; More Tales of the Wanderers, Colm Keane; 25th Anniversary illustrated history. I'll get details (dates etc.) in the next couple of days. I think they're all still available.

The FAI has published illustrated history/ies but only in relation to the international team AFAIK.

IMO, it's a very useful idea - I've been trying to find time to check it out myself. I thought of trying to collect them for a club library. Could this be done on a swap basis, does anyone think?

There's a Finn Harps book, which appears to have been published in 2008 and re-launched this year: see here

I know there have been a few books on various of the teams that played in Cork over the years. No details yet, though.

    I'm continuing to google this!

There was a thread here that went under "el Related books" that started in 2006 which detailed the clubs that have books written on their club histories.

Not so easy to find that el related books thread - though I eventually did. There have been a couple of others, too, and there's information elsewhere, too.

Here's a few to be going on with - in no particular order, as they say:

We Are Rovers - Voices of Irish Sport (An Oral History Of Shamrock Rovers FC) Eoghan Rice (Nonsuch press 2004 €18:99)

There's only one Red Army, Eamonn Sweeney, New Island Books 1997 [Sligo]

Who Needs Cantona ... We've Got Rod de Khors, Kevin O'Neill, 2005 [Athlone]

A History of Athlone Town Football Club - The First 101 Years, Frank Lynch 1991

Strings of my Harps, Patsy McGowan, Letterkenny 1998 [Finn Harps]

Mud, Sweat and Jeers, Jim Rhatigan, Kilkenny People ca 2000 [Kilkenny City]

Dyed In The Wool, Robin Browett, 2005 (privately published) [Shamrock Rovers]

From the Lodge to the Box, Plunkett Carter, ca 1994 (possibly re-published ca 2002) [Cork soccer in general, but emphasis on Hibs apparently]

    Bray Wanderers 25 Years 1985-2010, edited by Aidan O'Toole (2010, €30)

Blue, White and Dynamite, Brian Kennedy, 2007 €9.99.

Singing the Blues, Brian Kennedy, 2006. Both Kennedy books are about Waterford.

Come on the Hoops - the Story of Shamrock Rovers, Irelands Greatest Soccer Club, Charlie Willoughby, DBA Publications 1987.

The Hoops - History of Shamrock Rovers, Robert Goggins & Paul Doolan, Gill & Macmillan 1993.

A History of Derry City Football and Athletic Club 1929-1972, W.H.W. Platt
    1986, self-published?

I seem to have left out another Harps book, but I'm sure someone else will list it.

BTW, the FAI website has ben posting what appears to be chapters of their history, with considerable emphasis on the International element. An earlier version was retrieved a few years ago and is available together with other material at http://www.braywanderers.com/showarticle.php?id=251

There's a centenerary Rovers one aswell which is a pictoral history of the club. It's called Shamrock Rovers Football Club: 100 Years by Robert Goggins 2002.

At the top of the 'Premier and First Divisions' Section there is a sticky thread called 'Rules, Links and Info' .... there is loads of stuff in there and a link to that thread is in there as well.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Note: This Derry history and the Derry City History by WHW Platt deal only with Derry's Irish League seasons (to 1972).

That book is self-published, aye: http://www.amazon.co.uk/History-Derr...6209646&sr=1-5

The WHW stands for William Henry Walker and he also authored a book about cricket in the north-west of Ireland between 1919 and 1941 for anyone interested.

There are a couple of other Derry City ones as well that I'm aware of:

'The Derry City FC Story: 1928-1986' by Frank Curran (Donegal Democrat, 1986).
'Derry City' by Eddie Mahon (Guildhall Press, 1997).
