Another home loss but at least a more creditable performance from the Youths as they tried hard to restrict a better Cork side but ultimately failed to do so. As expected, Noel made a few changes after the debacleof last week and started 4-5-1 with Packie, Wolfie, Murt, Karl, Deano, Ben, Patsy, Craig, Greg, Muzzi and Dara up front on his own. Both sides started at a good tempo and first chance fell to Cork after ten, when a mistake left Sullivan in the clear but he shot straight at Packie from twenty yards out. Five later, O-Neill got another shot away from the left which took a slight deflectin but Packie got down comfortably enough. First good corner fell to Cork after eighteen, but the Cork player, in the clear, couldn't keep an uppish volley down.

With fifteen to go in the half, Cork upped the pace and the Wexford goal had a bit of a charmed life with Cummins firstly breaking clear down the left and his low cross was headed wide at the near post by Sullivan but it may have been slightly behind him. Then two free kicks for Cork, notably a bigger side, caused problems with Cummins heading wide when beating Packie to the ball and then another ball floated into the box controlled by Cork but the shot was hit straight at Packie and bounced out to hit the oncoming Cork player on the arm for a free-out. With two to go, Greg picked up a yellow for dissent and, apart from a few crosses, Wexford hadn't troubled McNulty for nil-nil at half-time.

Grinny came on for Dara at the start of the second-half who had done well on his own up front (presumed injury). Half then began with a bang as, in the first minute, Packie did brilliantly to stretch backwards to paw away a goal-bound header from Cork's first corner of the half. Youths then went down the pitch and got a free-kick about thirty yards out. Ben hit it low and hard but McNulty pushed it back into play and when returned back into the six yard box, Craig, popped up at the near post to prod it home from six yards for a surprising one-nil to the Youths. Cork then took over and after six, headed wide from beyond the far post when in the clear. After twelve, a neat one-two in the box left a Cork forward in the clear but again, it was ht straight at Packie. After fifteen, Shane came on for Muzzi with Grinny pushed up front on his own.

Equaliser then came for Cork and again it came from a cross which went up in the air in the Wexford box but Packie didn't make it and it fell to Sullivan who prodded it home from ten yards out for one-one. Thought Packie needed to get up a bit earlier than he did for the ball. With fifteen to go, Danny came on for Wolfie, and, immediately, Wexgord lost the ball and Cork shifted it across the pitch where Cummins was in the clear and he put it away nicely low left to give Packie no chance from twenty yards out. A late free-kick from Ben which was on target but saved comfortably by McNulty was Wexfordd's only chance of an equaliser in the minutes remaining. Two-one to Cork at full-time with about 220 at the match.

Cork were a quicker, more physical outfit than Wexford on the night and deserved their win with Cummins again looking the pick of their team. Wexford battled well with Dara doing well in the first half, Craig, Patsy and Greg grafting hard in midfield and Karl probably the best of the defence. 4-5-1 looks a better option for Wexford at the moment as it gives them a bit more solidity and often gives them space to go forward whenever they can get hold of the ball.
