    Waterford

Wexford paid the price of a very subdued first-half to come away with nothing in reasonably enjoyable south-east derby in Ferrycarrig tonight. With everyone except Anto available, Wexford started with Packie, Gareth, Karl, Wolfie, Murt, Ben, Craig, Greg, Shane and Danny and Darragh up front. Waterford started much the brighter and had good chances early on with Packie pushing a free-kick round the post for a corner and then Breener hitting the bar for Waterford with that corner. A Blues forward then volleyed straight at Packie when in the clear and after about 17, Sinny was too easily let latch onto a flick-on to volley home nicely low left for 1-0 to the Blues. Danny had a half-chance midway through the half when he scooped the ball over the bar on the stretch after Wexford's first reasonable move of the half.

Shane Dempsey theh got a yellow for the Blues for a tackle while Craig shot straight at the Blues keeper when in a reasonable position. The Blues finished the stronger in the Half with Packie pushing a shot round the post for a corner and then tipping a header over the bar. With two minutes to go, Wexford couldn't clear another corner and the ball dropped handily to Breener who prodded it home from eight out for 2-0 to Waterford and two ex-Youths players on the scoresheet. Second-half started with Patsy coming on for Greg in an attempt to liven the Youths up, but the first chance fell to the Blues when Shane Dempsey volleyed over the bar when about 20 yards out. Grinny then came on for Darragh after about ten.

Waterford then seemed to take their foot off the gas and Ben had a shot pushed away for a corner. Wexford then got the goal the game needed when the ball dropped into the Blues box and as it stuck between several players on the ground, the referee gave a penalty for the Youths which Danny put away low left with the keeper going the wrong way. Deano then came on for Murt on the left and immediately made a difference as a natural left-sided player down that side. Gareth and Breener both picked up yellows at this stage with Wexford doing a reasonable amount of pressing with the only real half-chance coming when Deano found Craig in the clear but his touch was too heavy leaving the Blues keeper to smother the ball easily enough.

As Wexford pressed, the Blues got a late chance when a Sinny header found their winger in the clear about fifteen out, but his volley again went over the bar with only Packie in front of him. Wexford won two corners in the four minutes of injury-time but nothing came of either to leave Waterford 2-1 winners at full-time. Best for Wexford were Gareth who had a stormer at right-back and the subs of Patsy, Deano and Grinny who improved the team in the second-half when they came on. Maybe, 500 at the match.

total ******. i go to all home games and a few aways. The team we have now is worse than when we started and full of lads from other counties. Our under 18 all ireland team have not benefitted from our eircom league team. If anything it has set them back and senior players from wexford that are half decent wont play for us and dont say cos of money cos thats crap. Wexford Youths are no better than a leinster senior league team. Why didnt we try work our way up through the leagues instead of jumping into the deep end? Or was there another alternative to the wexford youths instead of football? The wexford League has suffered and so has the young players of our county. I said this would happen at the very start. Things being done wrong from the off and only getting worse. And miles to go before we sleep

I'l agree this team is very poor and I would love a team of Wexford players, but if players from Wexford junior clubs don't want to commit to playing LOI what can Wexford Youths do? They can't force people to play and will have to look outside the county. I believe the Wexford lads playing for Waterford are playing there because of better money but who can blame them for that. I think you're right about the U18 team and it will be interesting to see how the U16 team that won the tournament in Italy progress, most of them will likely be signed for the Youths. It is a shame players aren't coming through the underage teams into the first team more.

How do you think the junior league has suffered? Oscar Traynor champions last year and New Ross Celtic getting to FAI Junior cup semis and FAI Cup 3rd round, North End getting to the Junior Cup quarters. It seems to be doing grand but I can only speak from looking at these facts and my club and we haven't suffered but I dont think we have benefited at the same time. I could understand how bigger clubs could feel aggrieved at losing players, especially from their youth teams

I agree about things being done wrong too. I feel more of an effort should be made to attract people to the games and work should be done with the school boy and junior clubs for the benefit of the sport in the county. Communication from the club has been a problem but the new website has addressed this a little anyway.

Look I agree with you with on most of your points and didn't want to **** you off but when you ended your first comment with "hahahahaha" I thought you were wumming
