Formations

What formations and tactics does your club use? Thinking about this a lot lately: Over the last couple of years I've seen mostly 4-5-1 with an occasional morph into 4-4-2. Fingal were different 4-4-3 and Sligo seem to throw 4 up front sometimes, but the general fashion is for tactical cancelation of midfield alongside hoofball from the back to the front.
Anyone agree/disagree with this assessment?
See anything different?
I think most coaches in the league are much too negative.
Is anything more adventurous prevented by the standard of player available?

Bray generally play 4-4-2, but Chris Shields is often used as one of the forwards, and he doubles as a central midfielder, so he can drop back fairly easily. The thing is, we don't have any big, tall, powerful strikers well-suited to playing as a lone target man, so we tend to have two smaller lads, who run around very quickly trying to pull the central defenders out of position and create some space.

Most of the teams I've seen this season have looked fairly 4-4-2 as well. With the exception of Galway, who didn't look particularly interested in leaving their own half, despite being 2-0 down after 9 minutes.

We play 4-2-3-1 alot

This year Foster plays 4-4-2 mainly, compared to last years 4-2-3-1. In midfield the two central midfielders generally sit back and the two wingers (Kearns and Gaynor) play an advanced role with Byrne and Quigley up front. Quigley generally tends to drop deep with Byrne in a more advance role.

Williams and Finn are both men and a half. Sorry, meant 4-3-3.

I saw sligo playing a few times this year and they've looked very thin in the middle of the park...N'Do not fit enough to play Cook's system it seemed.

Thought Fingal were playing a 0-0-0 formation this season

Bohs currently playing a 4 -4 -1 -1 formation (or 4-5-1) with Traynor playing "in the hole" (playing position not SDCC stadium

). This owes more to injuries and the lack of a decent second striker than to any tactical genius from Fenlon. Usual formation would be 4-4-2 with 2 in middle holding play and (hopefully) creating and 2 wide players.
Generally find team formations depend a lot more on players available than on managers preferences.

Harps started the season with a 433/451 formation. Seems to be designed to ensure McHugh gets no support or chances to score whatsoever.

Lately it's been back to 442 though.

0-0-0. No that's Bohs' bank balance. Seriously, though, I agree, kind of. Players can change to suit a style of play - look at how Ronnie Whelan and Paul McGrath were put to work in the Jack Charlton era international team...

Didn't you play 4-5-1 against Shels last week? It was pretty defensive anyway.

We usually play 4-4-2, Went into a 4-5-1 after our goal out in Bray on Friday, When Mulcahy comes back I would love to see us go with a 4-3-3 with Mulcahy Bradley and Mcfaul in the middle, With Kavanagh North and one other inter-changing roles as a top 3
