What I don't understand is your certainty that we (Yes, I'm a Sligo Rovers fan) "will beat the Ukrainians home and away". What exactly is this based on? What can you tell us about them? Who are their key players? their strengths and weaknesses?
Time will tell if bringing in a couple of new players now pays off. It is only a couple of players though and our crowds are up and sponsorship streams seem steady. There's also a lot of fundraisers happening.
That said, if we do run into trouble it makes us even bigger imbeciles than those who went before us.
The letting go of Packie Lynch was a mistake imo.
cant tell u anything about them , all i see is there euro record isnt good, they are having legal problems and they only beat a holiday team 2-0 (Glens). Sligo Rovers are at the moment playing their best of season while Ukranians lost opener. Now I obviously realise that nothing is certain but i feel confident of the win. ps dont you have confidence in it?
Beating any team 2-0 away in the Europa League qualifiers in nothing to be sniffed at, especially when you've travelled the length of Europe to play.
I'm confident that Rovers will a good account of themselves, and you never know what can happen, but the fact is that its a team from the country ranked 8th in Europe at the moment playing one from the 33rd. Fulham "only" won by 2 goals in the North the other night, so that's a red herring. And talk of poor euro records goes out the window somewhat when Vllaznia Shkoder get brought into the equation.
I accept all your points however I still feel its ours and stats backing me up or not I will continue to enjoy the feeling until we lose. Then I will come back down. In the meantime Im going to see what I can do to help organise the NYC contingent of Rovers fans to try and add to the brilliant fundraising work being done by the fans there.
If we weren't going out and signing Conor Powell and still actively chasing Boco then I don't think the fans of any club would have a problem with what's going on. It would strike of a team having a bit of difficulty paying for a long trip across Europe. But the fact is that we're sacking commercial managers while bringing in highly paid players and then asking for season ticket holders to fork our more money on top of the few hundred euros they forked out at the start of the season as well as the €25 that had to be paid to go to the home European game. That doesn't sound good and with so much precedence out there for LOI clubs spending what they don't have (and their fans saying "there's nothing to see here" while it's being pointed out to them) I think it's right for fans of other clubs to be worried about the way we're going about things. I certainly am.
Yes I would love it if we won the league but if it puts us into the same situation that some of the other clubs have found themselves then I'll give it a miss.

You are talking so much rubbish here its not funny. The club are not asking the season ticket holders to pay in to the pats game. This is purely a fans initiative, if you dont want to do it then dont, no obilgation. The reason for it is to help the club because we have a team worth supporting, have had to pay 50K to hold the game in sligo only to be given a tough draw. Simple as that.
There is always one.
statistics can be twisted to suit anything. Pats and Bohs are ranked higher than both Rovers for example. 2 years ago means nothing today . I disagree that 2-0 was a good win against micky mouse opposition thats all nothing more. As quoted earlier me thinking it doesnt make it so but yes i think that. I will enjoy the period up to and hopefully the time after the games instead of thinking were no good so really why bothe like some pessimists. The way the Rovers fans are getting behind their club (fundraising and helping bring Showgies up to standard) is a credit to them and an example to others and will inspire the team in this euro campaign.
No I didnt I mearly pointed out that it doesnt flatter them. nothing more. The home and away thing was just an off the cuff comment although as I did say earlier a quick away goal and well who knows and I do genuinley beleive we will win in Showgrounds.
ps Im not arguing anything just offering my feelings twoards the games.

I think you'll see a rather higher score than "only 2-0" in their home leg.Originally Posted by harleyleeds
