Well apart from the obvious (Miller, Ried, McGeady), I think that Manchester City centre back Paddy McCarthy could make it big. He blew me away in the U-21 friendly against Scotland recently and should really be getting his game at City next year, given that its only Distan and fat ******* that he has to displace.

Spurs defender Stephen Kelly is another exciting prospect.

Given that Keegan is still in charge at MCFC, I fully expect him to blow over £5million on a centre-back of dubious pedigree and once again stifle the progress of any youngsters who may otherwise push for a first-team place.

Paddy McCarthy will end up playing for his namesake at Sunderland within the next twelve months...

I really hope not. He looks top class, reminds me of O'Shea but is a hell of a lot tougher. His touch is also fantastic, he has great vision and is very composed on the ball.

    Stephen Elliot I think.

McCarthy seems to have a worrying lack of pace, I might be wrong though, but for some reason I can't see him making it.

McCarthy and Fitzgerald were both excellent against Scotland. They formed a very tough, physical partnership. Fitzgerald almost impressed me more though, he was organising the entire defence.

I think Mark Yeates could be the best young player coming through at the moment apart from the ones already capped. Can play in the hole or as an out and out striker.

I was at that game and although Fitz scored 2 goals and got man of the match, McCarthy was the man who impressed me. He seemed to win absolutly every high ball that came in and his passing was flawless.
