Solitary goal secured win for Cork tonight in what was close, but low-key match in Ferrycarrig. Wexford made one change from team which started against the Mons with Shane starting and began with Packie, Gareth, Karl, Wolfie, Murt, Shane, Craig, Greg, Kevin and Danny and Darragh up front. First chance fell early on to Danny when he connected with a flick-on from Darragh but his shot was saved comfortably by McCarthy in the Cork goal. Cork then created a great chance when a neat move left their forward in the clear but his shot hit the post and was cleared for a corner. Cork then had a free header over the bar from a corner and looked dangerous from corners all evening.

Danny then had Wexford's best chance of the half when put in the clar following good play by Shane and Darragh but he had to shoot with the ball slightly behind him and McCarthy saved the effort comfortably. Another header from Cork which Packie did well to push over the bar ended the first half with a 0-0 scoreline. The second half began with a Cork freekick which was volleyed wide of the post and then, about ten in, the goal came, predictably enough from another corner, when Mulcahy headed powerfully home without much of a challenge. Best chance for Wexford fell soon after to Kevin when he had a free run in on goal but couldn'y get his shot away before the challenge came in. Packie then made a great save to deny Cork a second after Wexford lost the ball in their own half.

With twenty to go, Ben came on for Darragh up front and had a shot on target a few minutes later, which McCarthy was happy to push away for a corner. Kiely, who had previously got a yellow, was then lucky to escape another for a bad tackle on Craig outside the box who had to limp off a few minutes later. Packie then got a fortunate yellow for a charge into a free Cork runner wide left outside the box with little cover behind him. Eoin Kinsella came on for Craig when he went off and then Cork hit the outside of the post with a shot from outside the box. Robert Dempsey came on for Murt and, with three to go, Danny Murphy got a straight red for dissent which left Wexford with a few minutes and four added minutes of injury-time. Wexford applied the pressure as best they could but didn't look like scoring for a one-nil margin to Cork at full-time.

Best for Wexford were Packie, Gareth who did well against a good Cork left-winger, Greg, and Danny and Darragh both worked hard up front. While Cork threatened every time they got a corner and eventually scored fron one of them, Wexford's efforts at corners were pale in comparison and too often left easy clearances for defenders from outside the near post. Looked to be only 150 at it.
