An emotional Roche was struggling to take in the enormity of what Michael O'Neill and his players had achieved in the heat of the Serbian capital.
"Hopefully now, people will take everyone in Irish football -- and not just us -- seriously," said Roche, who was part of the group of fans who saved Rovers from extinction back in 2005.
"Clubs like Celtic and Rangers have gone out tonight while Shamrock Rovers are still in and representing Irish football.
"It's a massive night for the club and hopefully we can kick on from this. I think the league gets unfair criticism at times -- not from print media -- but a lot of other media that covers Irish football. Look at before this game. It wasn't going to be on TV until Setanta did it at the last minute.
"But, to be positive, it's unbelievable. We're going to Monaco tomorrow for the draw."

You do realise that 3e is part of of the TV3 Group and that TV3 already had the rights to the Europa League? Not to mention the fact that the rights are now far more valuable than they were originally. They will now have the responsibility of being the host broadcaster (having to produce it themselves and provide a feed for overseas companies), but they will come out the other end a good bit better off.
The Rovers games will probably be very well advertised and shown on TV3.
I'm constantly amazed how many people don't understand TV rights

I'm aware of all that. I was just looking to highlight how that network have shown little interest in Irish football? With their right to the EL, while obviously not part of the deal, I just think they should have shown some interest in Rovers play-off games. The game in Belgrade was an historic might.

Two LOI games on one after another on tv.
This must be what its like when doves cry.
Do the teams get payment anymore for Live Games.
We are the Galway Boys Stand up and make some noise"
are you 100% sure !!!

wasn't it 5k a game or something
So 200-300 tickets. I wonder if it's worth it.
Going to games is far better than watching them games on TV. Having the games on the box is good for the games profile. I'd imagine the hope is that the strategy will pay off in the long-term. Aren't the number of live games supposed to ramp up to the point where there'll be a game shown every week?

No.
There was a fund that clubs qualified to share based on a certain numbers of matches being shown live on TV. If I remember correctly last season this was €50k which was not paid out, as the FAI retrospecively changed the qualifying criteria so no club got any payout. In others words the FAI simply cancelled this.
AFAIK the FAI have been more upfront this season and simply canceled this fund from the outset.
That's shocking and a slap in the face to the clubs concerned.
Cork City v St Pats in the FAI Cup is going to be live on RTE.
