Ace striker John O’Flynn looks set to miss out on Cork City’s clash with Derry City at Turner’s Cross with a thigh strain.

O’Flynn has notched up three goals in four games since returning to the starting XI after a month’s absence though he will again be missing on Friday as Pat Dolan’s men look to make it ten League games unbeaten.

Kevin Doyle (hamstring) would normally replace O’Flynn in attack though his absence means that Dolan must choose whether to call in Denis Behan or move George O’Callaghan forward from midfield to partner Neale Fenn.

Right back Cillian Lordan is also doubtful with a thigh strain meaning Greg O’Halloran will start in defence.

Cork drew with League leaders Shelbourne on Tuesday night and Dolan is hoping that his side brings the same form into the clash with Derry. “We played very well and got what we deserved from the game. Now we’ve got to bring that into this game and hopefully keep them out as well,” he said.

Managerless Derry City have just one absentee with Gerry Gill sitting is Leaving Certificate and caretaker player-manager Peter Hutton is hoping that after finally ending their seven game run without a goal and a victory, they can make it two wins in a row to help them away from the relegation danger zone.

“It was good to get the result and the goals, but we can’t rest on our laurels. We’ve got to continue on in the next few games to get ourselves up the table.”

Doyle came on as sub for O'Flynn mid-week & I haven't heard he injured again.

Right back Cillian Lordan is also doubtful with a thigh strain meaning Greg O’Halloran will start in defence.

Be surprised if Lordan took back the right back slot from Greg even if was fit.

O'Flynn sits out visit of Derry

Cork City striker John O'Flynn will miss his chance to impress the talents scouts as he sits out the Leesiders’ eircom League clash with Premier Division strugglers Derry City tonight (7.45pm).

Irish Under-21 international O’Flynn, the subject of interest from Notts County last week, was to have been watched by Northampton Town, Division Three promotion favourites for next season.

The Cobblers’ director of football John Deehan is reported to be in Ireland this weekend to scout players for manager Colin Calderwood’s promotion push in 2004-05, with O’Flynn high on the shopping list.

But the former Peterborough striker has succumbed to a thigh injury and will miss tonight’s game, as will Kevin Doyle.

This means manager Pat Dolan is set to either start Denis Behan up front alongside Neale Fenn or push George O’Callaghan forward from midfield.

Whoever plays in Cork's attack they will be optimistic of scoring as Derry has leaked 16 goals in 15 matches this season, scoring only seven.

The visitors’ caretaker player-manager Peter Hutton will have been buoyed though by a 2-1 midweek win over relegation rivals Dublin City, bringing an end to a league goal drought lasting seven games.

Davy Byrne is struggling with a hamstring problem and may not be fit to play but fellow midfielder Gerry Gill is definitely out as he is on exam leave.

to be fair, kevs come back earlier than expected and while hes probably ready for a spot on the bench, he might not be up to starting and playing a full 90. i'd say theres a good chance he'll be on the bench again tonight. if he gets a decent run-out, say half an hour, he'd probably be nice and ready to get a hat-trick against the malmolians!

Behan and Fenn up front. Fenn improved against Pats, wasn't there for shels game meself so no comment. But he needs to keep putting himself about more. Behan, well I less than impressed by what I've seen of him.
Best option is McSweeney in mid field and george up front.
