    Afriyie Acquah

Thought this was an interesting wee story when I came across it and here's probably the most appropriate place for it.

Danny Blanchflower, Jimmy McIlroy and Peter Doherty are just some of the footballing talents Irish League club Glentoran have given to the world.

But it could be argued that an African teenager now playing in the top division in Italy is the brightest star of all.

For Afriyie Acquah had been living on the streets when the Glentoran Academy in Ghana took him under their wing.

In February, he made his league debut in Serie A for Sicilian club Palermo against Fiorentina, after signing a four-year deal earlier this season.

His story is one which reflects the Glentoran motto - Le Jeu Avant Tout (The Game Above All) - in its truest sense.

Fair play to them for helping set up the Academy in the first place....

I reckon Blanchflower might want words with the BBC though. At least for now anyway.

That might be rather hard though, given he's no longer with us?

That doesn't look good. Have no idea why I thought he was still alive. Was way before my time is my only defence, although I feel like it's something that's surely very common knowledge amongst the footballing fraternity.
