Great occasion but the first night back was always going to sell itself. The attendance next time out v Bray will be interesting. Are there any plans to do something with the Poplar side in the future, i.e covered terrace ?
Despite the result i thought Friday night was a fantastic occasion and a massive shot in the arm for senior football in the city. The goodwill and interest was brilliant to see. It was proof that there is interest in senior soccer in the city. I love the location and sense of history the ground brings with it. The buzz outside the stand was electric beforehand. I firmly believe this milestone is the single most important development in the history of the club. The future of the club is safeguarded now as we have a permanent and suitable base. It also wouldnt surprise me if Pat O Sullivan loosened the purse strings in July after seeing the appetite for a successful Limerick FC in the Markets Field.

Hopefully they will complete the terracing on all sides of the ground, will see over the next few weeks if work continues.
I also hope its not a case of get in now and the outstanding works stop.
So exciting now to have a nice clean ground to attend for supporters, families and first time visitors to watch football in Limerick. There will be some nice evenings now to enjoy in comfort soccer football.
Just think of all the local Limerick junior league and schoolboys/girls finals that will now have a venue to look forward too in the future.
They're not doing any more terracing. Keep an eye on the Markets Field Facebook page if you're on there. They are good for updates on the stadium progress. They said something along the lines of not needing to terrace the popular side, that there'll never be any more than one or two deep around there.

Not sure if this topic is for here but just read that limerick Fc got 200K from from the Sport Ministry. Any idea what this will be used for? With the stadium sorted what do people think they should with this?
It's for bruff.
How big an astroturf will we get for 200 grand?

That's some seriously good news for the long term benefit of the club.

After the potential of last nite's Promotion/Relegation game, its necessary for terracing opposite the main stand. With the size of the crowd, it would have helped with the over flow quicker once the stand was full, I think a lot of fans would go to an open terrace side as terrace standing is still a preference for most fans. I don't think that the cost would be a factor.
Agree with the above its badly needed the view over there is extremely poor steps is a must
A lot of other things need looked at before more terracing is installed.

Sweet jesus will you get over the one toilet and the 11 euro for a burger and water. 😴😴
The ground Is only opened a few months that was the clubs first massive massive crowd ok we had have crowds of over 2k last few months but last night was a first in double that.
Ya I think the club handled it very well. When you have nearly 5,000 people coming into a ground which has never had a crowd like that, run by volunteers you are never going to keep everyone happy. Chances are it will be a very long time before we have a crowd anywhere near that again.
The terracing fair enough is bad but for 90% of our matches it will suffice. The LEDP will not spend money on extra terracing if it is never really going to be used. Let's not forget that like, it not the clubs decision whether there is a sloped terracing on that side or not.

Hopefully the club will realise that if they attract the big crowds they hope to, something needs to be done about the popular side.
Nice ground, looked great last night with a massive crowd and enjoyed the atmosphere.
A pity the stands are so far away from the pitch but other than that it's a fine place.
Rugby to return to the Markets Field.

Going to be interesting to find out what the implications will be for Limerick FC. As it stands the club maintain the pitch. The costs involved, cutting the grass, lining the pitch etc... If Rugby will be played on the surface then who is responsible to getting it to standard for football.
It'll be big enough for the senior team in a couple of years time at the rate the greatest supporters in the world are falling off the bandwagon.
Munster sometimes sign small deals with clubs to hold training sessions etc. On their pitches, especially if you have lights and decent facilities. They don't actually use it much. Might just be that and being a bit overblown by LEDP. Hopefully anyway.
It will be used for Academy games, A team matches (rarely as they spread them across the province) and Munster Schools games. Munster are getting a purpose built facility in UL so won't need the Markets Field for training. For games the senior team will never play a competitive game in the Markets Field.
Garryowen would be off their heads to play there and it would be purely for nostalgic reasons and nothing else. Out in Dooradoyle they have two pitches, a full size Astro turf pitch, a big club house and a full bar.

Well, the last time we were in the First Division we had a very dodgy pitch, so I guess the experience will be very similar.
