Yep, I have all three ireland games on video from 88. All from ITV commentary, with Brian Moore in the hot seat. Remember it all so well. Been ages since I last watched them. Those were great days

Found this poem by Peter Goulding about the Dutch game, made me laugh....

Euro 88 – Ireland vs Holland

    George Hamilton actually gloated.
    I couldn’t believe my ears.
And though it was sugary coated,
    He summonsed our deepermost fears.

“The Dutch,” he announced with elation,
“Don’t seem to know how to respond!”
“Shut up!” screamed the whole population,
From the shores of this land and beyond.

But sure enough, two minutes after,
With a header the Dutch went ahead,
And amid all the bright orange laughter,
    We wished hapless Georgie-boy dead.

The match had not too long remaining,
And Ireland looked set to go through,
And I’m not one for bitter complaining,
But anger where anger is due.

What a ludicrous thing to be saying!
Why the great, urgent need to tempt fate?
    Especially when Ireland are playing
And we’ve more than enough on our plate.

The Dutch won the whole competition,
Though Ireland had done a good job.
    No tactics contrived our perdition,
    Just outspoken George’s big gob.

Yep, sounds like another Hamilton special.
Think it was Italia 90 against the dutch.
When in the tenth minute, Mc Carthy chops down a forward, only for gullit to follow through and score from the freekick. Beforehand, Georgie boy was bangin on about how sturdy the irish defense was and how we were as safe as houses.
Jaysus....I almost burst a blood vessel after that blunder

The picture I love was the tan defence all standing around with their hands up looking for off-side while everyone else was celebrating. That donkey Adams would raise his hand as soon as a ball was heading in his direction. The ball count that day was heavily in favour of a team that was 1-0 down after 6 minutes but as Gary said, we hit the cross bar later in the same half.

Anyway, face up to it lads: Ireland only won that game because Gary Whineker contracted hepatitis.

An absolute fluke, and it still hurts
Do you remember lip-reading Packie Bonner straight after too?!

    "Ah for f***'s sake!"

Cheers for the info on the videos - will have a look around and see what I can find.

There was one called Goal '88....It was awesome. Narrated by an irishman...Probably best competition video I've ever seen. As you know, it has some of the greatest legends to ever play. I've been trying to get a copy. So far, no luck...
