Kelvin's little known scientific experiment sounds like an alcohol fuelled fighter plane? Why, that's as low as it gets! (8,4)
Edit: misread your clue, so disregard above.

Absolute Zero for the first one.
The current clue requires a little more thought.

It wasn't the Hoops, although for the last few weeks I feel like I've been jumping through hoops!

I don't think it's been a problem getting the answer, more likely what to do with the next clue, and to be honest, working back trying to figure out the last one!
Anyway:
River Clyde flows on to this Summer Bay original. (5)

I wad thinking about Arran jumpers as that's the first island out the Clyde.
I was thinking the Summer Bay was a Home and Away reference. But thankfully I don't know enough to take it further unless the answer is somehow Alf Stewart.
#NeverStopNotGivingUp
Home and Away is where I'm looking for an answer too. Original characters would include Morag, Pippa, Bobby, Ailsa. I can't find anything to link any of those names to the Clyde though.

WTF?! How's "Pippa" make more sense than "Scott"?!
[/bitter]
No idea. Ailsa would also fit. I assumed that there was a love interest called Clyde for Pippa at some stage and that Stann was bring very very rude.
I withdraw my answer and activity in this thread until its answered.
Ah. You appear to have watched the show. I just figured Scott was a name (and a River Clyde reference obviously) and googled it to see if he was in the show. Given that it was Jason Donovan's character, I figured that was high profile enough to be the answer. Not exactly scientific! Then stann's revelation that A was the last letter completely threw me.
So yeah, let's just wait for confirmation from stann.
Stu, Scott was in Neighbours, the other Aussie soap based in Ramsey Street, not Home & Away based in Summer Bay. You lack of knowledge of such matters worries me. What kind of student were you?

******! Well, that's me out.
I was a Countdown student. No time for this soap milarkey.
I think that makes us mortal enemies or something.
