Not included in the Celtic Cup squad anyhow.
Not included in the Celtic Cup squad anyhow.
The pattern seems to has b the player to declare his intention publicly before switching to ROI and being named in a squad, so guessing that's what would need to happen with Ferguson. That doesn't necessarily mean the player goes public independent of the FAI, it might just mean the FAI ask the player to go public before they name a squad, possibly to avoid (overly) antagonising the IFA (or another association).
Ou-est le Centre George Pompidou?
Does anyone know when the NI squad is announced? Can't see him joining up with their squad even if he is selected, given the match thats in it.
Some new stories on Ferguson:
http://www.tribalfootball.com/articl...ug-war-1613191
http://www.newsletter.co.uk/sport/fo...talk_1_2649486Newcastle fullback Shane Ferguson is staying calm over his international future.
The 19-year-old has already been capped by Northern Ireland, but the Republic of Ireland want to take advantage of a FIFA loophole which would allow him to star for Eire.
Ferguson told the Evening Chronicle: “I cannot really say much about it.
“I am just focusing on my club football at the minute, and whatever happens with internationals is a bonus.
“If I keep doing well for Newcastle, the rest will take care of itself.”
Playing things down is one way of looking at it...
Not sure if they offer much in the way of an update really, mind. Although, they both ignorantly refer to FIFA's article 15 as a "loophole". Annoying and inexplicable.
Ferguson looks set the get some more first-team action in Newcastle's final three games: http://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/...rdew_1_3355048
NILE Ranger and Shane Ferguson have been put on standby for Newcastle United’s final three games.
The pair, according to manager Alan Pardew, are that much closer to first-team action after a spate of injuries.
And striker Ranger and defender Ferguson, 19, have been challenged by Pardew to use any opportunity they get in the club’s last three games as a springboard for next season.
Starts today V Chelsea
Taken off in the 2nd half due to injury. Didn't see it. Just going through BBC text commentary he seems to have had a good game with Ivanovic picking up a yellow in the 2nd half after hauling down "the speedy Ferguson"
Played very well. Injuryy didn't look too serious and I think Pardew was going to take him off anyway.
Exciting prospect if he was secure his services for ROI.
You've got no fans.
The NI squad for the upcoming Carling Nations Cup game with us is set to be announced at 10:15 in the morning, but it appears that Ferguson won't feature from what I've been hearing. Apparently, he's concentrating on his club at the minute and will make a decision on his international future at a later stage.
The Guardian gave him Man of the Match for his performance against Chelsea, saying that his pace troubled Ivanovic and that he hinted at an immense future.
Ferguson won't be in the NI panel that is to be announced today. Will know more in about 2 weeks.
Always look on the bright side of life
What happens in two weeks?![]()
Someone under the alias 'DubBhoy' on OWC claiming that "Ferguson is planning on sitting out a few squads and then declaring for ROI in the new year". That anyone on here?
It looks like Shane Ferguson just wants to concentrate on establishing himself at club level. Probably when he comes back from his summer holidays in Liege, Belgium he'll make his international intentions known.

Mark McIntosh (journalist from Lisburn) tweeted this earlier: https://twitter.com/#!/markjmcintosh...98631765073921
Shane Ferguson blanks NI call-up. 2 weeks of calls and texts ignored. After Daniel Devine, I fear another one bites the dust. #gawa
One for a Daniel Devine thread, but McIntosh also confirmed the Belfast centre back is declaring after underlining Ferguson's actions:
@thegawa Nigel has sent texts and left voicemails in past two weeks but hasn't heard back from him. Poor form. Devine received call-up but informed IFA last week of his intention to play for ROI
Ou-est le Centre George Pompidou?
"I've left voicemails, text messages and made random calls to Shane (Ferguson) but at no time did we get a reply." Nigel Worthlesston.
