Cork 2-0
From what I've seen we haven't performed bad either and they have. They will also have a stronger starting 11 than us on the night if you ask me and if those players perform they will beat us. In saying that though we played better down there twice last season so hopefully that will continue.
1nil to limerick
Cork 1-0 Limerick.
Terrible game. Limerick where poor and Cork not much better. Broughall and Ryan at fault for the goal, Broughall should have gone in hard for the ball and put it into touch as it was there to be won be stayed out of the tackle, Ryan tried to predict the cross and got caught at his near post. Garbhan Coughlan may as well not have been on the pitch, never got involved in tackles and showed no interest to get the ball. O Leary and Judge tried hard but where out numbered and muscled in midfield. Hynes worked very hard in fairness to him and Calla, McCarthy and Frost while not outstanding did there jobs. Breen had a bit of urgency about him when he came on as did Coleman but O Connor was way off the pace. Judge could have had a goal right near the end with a free header just going wide at the back post. Cork just shaded it and deserved there win. Both teams wasted a lot of possesion in attack.
Agree with most of wht Jofspring has said except i think O'Leary was terrible wasted every single pass and pulled out of tackles....O'Connor hadnt enough time to get into the game as the ball was being hoofed over his head.
We had 2 shots from long range and that was it apart from the Judge header.
Paudie Quinn was the same as Garbhan Coughlan..
How Peter White was sitting on the bench and Broughall starting i dont know..If Broughall starts against Longford i really worry about Scullys judgement.
Plainly obvious again tonight what anyone that watches us except Pat Scully seems to know we need a tough experienced head in the middle.
one word, unacceptable
broughall not good enough we need a right back even shane tracy could a job there like athlone last game last season he was man of the match at right back . and breen and o connor on wings i dno scully will prob stick with garvan broughall . hope corie tracy can go into right back next week want to see him play a full match
If you look back at my post of the salthill game I said bougaul (sorry for spelling) is no were near good enough for loi football very poor player. I'm worried already that scully is going to play this guy all season (like Kelly last season). I also said or mIdfield was not strong enough to young and weak it was proved again last night. LAst season killed us because we could not beat the teams around us its started the same way again how long more are the club going to put up with scully?
Ya its ridiculous that we are having the exact same problems as last year.
It was clear to anyone that watched us last year we needed someone tough and experienced in the middle when Heary and Sullivan played we looked better with the strenght in midfield then both leave and nothing was done about it. So far we have played 2 good teams Harps and Cork and both have strolled through our midfield as if it wasnt there its not good enough.
Broughall is not and never will be good enough for a team supposedly trying to get up all he does is hoof it up field or chip stupid crosses straight into the keepers hands.
Another game against one of the teams that will be challenging and again we are terrible.

In fairness, with the injuries, a draw was the best we were ever going to get lastnight so I'm not too down on the performance. Broughall was shown up badly for the goal, and plenty of other times too. He was getting no protection in front of him from Coughlan either...you could see we were vulnerable down that wing long before the goal came. Have to question the team selection when White was on the bench. Could have played him right full or in midfield with Judge or O'Leary pushed out to the wing. Although I also like the 2 lads in the middle, they're footballers and are getting stronger. Maybe White was carrying a knock or something.
White is grand has been tarining the whole time and came on last week.
Wouldnt be putting Judge or O'Leary on the wing imo none of em are wingers. White should have played Right Back.
Dont agree at all that a draw was the best we could get they were not that good either.
O'Leary and Coughlan were very bad lastnight. Seems the only striker we have is Steve too Hynes is a great worker and put in a lot of effort lastnight but cant see him or us getting many goals when Stve isnt playing.
Only 3 games in but if he keeps picking Broughall and doesnt sort out how weak we are in the middle questions will have to be asked.
That's true, with O'Flynn and Sheehan out and last year's lads all gone, we have little options up front at the moment. Not getting the point is a disappointment, mostly because Cork showed they are not great. We should have been burried 2 or 3 nil lastnight but we were allowed back in and could have nicked one. (We could get burried in Tolka soon without a change in team selection). If White played full back lastnight we get a 0-0 and things don't look so bad.
Having slept on it I'm not quite as down on the whole thing as I was last night for the following reasons: (i'm trying alright!!)
Looking at Cork last night, they're no great shakes at all, same problems as last year too, they are completely blunt. At times last night they had as much of the ball as they like and all they did with it was kick for the corners or lump it down Barry Ryans throat. If they are one of our main promotion rivals then we'll be there or therabouts in the long run, they will have nights where they struggle big time to break teams down.
If we have Stephen O'Flynn available last night we don't lose that game. One of their centre halfs was like Bambi and if O'Flynn was there it would have been a different dimension, more ball into feet and they panic, they panicked for the last 25 last night when all we were offering by way of attacking threat was Calla!! Also with Stephen in the centre you would have had Hynes on the right and he would have been a far bigger handful for Danny Murphy to deal with than Garbhan Coughlan was, which in turn would have offered a bit more protection for poor Brughall.
Eventhough Calla and McCarthy in general coped very well with Cummins I think Paddy was still a big loss last night for his leadership qualities. There was a few times last night when someone neede to have a calm word with the ref and it didn't happen. The ref was very slow to give cards for some pretty poor tackles from Cork players last night and there was no consistency. Hynes was booked for questioning a decision by the ref no more than three minutes after a Cork player got a stern talking to for trying to cleave John Frost in half. I'm not blaming the ref by ANY STRETCH for the defeat but it's something to bear in mind??
On the downside we created exactly nothing but it's hard to get any kind of rythm going when you're changing both your wingers and the midfield is being walked on (again! Altho I thought Judge played fairly well). Worrying to see Corks domination in the centre, Greg O'Halloran can still do a job in fairness to him, twas kinda summed up last night by us having to bring on Darren Coleman for O'Leary when we were chasing the game eventhough Coleman is basically a bit of a tough nut who wouldn't really be up to the standard of the two lads that started. Was Yellow around last night?? I'm not going to give out about Broughall, it's been done, he's only 19 and it's not his fault he's being picked, it's not like he's not trying. To give Scully some credit (we can only wait and see how the team selection pans out) having had a good look at Broughall in pre season he went out and signed Corey Tracy, you cant legislate for fellas kicking other fellas up into the air fifteen minutes into their debut!!
With Tolka looming in two weeks our next two home games on either side of it against Longford and Wexford are MUST WINS and Longford are fairly handy by all accounts this year. On the Shels game it looks ominous but it depends.
Ryan
Tracy
Purcell
McCarthy
Frost
Tracy
O'Leary
Judge
Hynes
Quinn
O'Flynn
Genuinely has a chance in Tolka imho, our record there is great and Shels will be nervous as it'll be their first (on paper) test of the season. Bring last nights team to Tolka and have them perform like that and you'll ship a hammering though........
