    Mayo Super League 2011

Not long to go until the season starts.

How are preparations going for clubs? No need to ask who people think are favourites to go straight back down. We will certainly give it our best to beat the drop.

Celtic must surely be in with a shout of competing for the title along with westport, Iorrais & Ballina.

    Thoughts?

Emigration may have to be factored in this year on predictions.

Are many clubs being effected by players having to travel for work?

INVER seems the first club to have to pull out, could this be the start of a common trend?

Your source seems to no more than everyone else in the ML.... 1 week before all leagues are to start, no one has 100% confirmation of fixtures or the start of the leagues. Its said to be the 10th but heard it also could be the following weekend.

    claremorris 3-2 erris

entertaining game 1 all at ht (k.costello for cmorris, og for erris). second half was 10 mins in when claremorris captain niall kitching got sent off for a second booking, claremorris then took the lead through a derek glynn peno. erris put the pressure on but got caught on the break and glynn rounded a defender and the keeper to slot his second home (3-1 cmorris). cmorris manager had been sent from the dugout at the stage for giving the ref (m halligan) a piece of his mind, erris got one back in injry time (well offside) but claremorris heid on. good win.

Five Star Performance Blow Manulla Away

    13/04/2011
    Castlebar Celtic 5-0 Manulla

A RESULT that serves due notice of Castlebar Celtic’s intent in the first year back in the Mayo Super League for their first team after a spell at national level. Manulla can argue that the 5-0 scoreline is a tad harsh, that the sending off of David Gallagher at 3-0 was definitely harsh, but what was in little doubt was the difference in class between the sides. It is to be expected that Celtic, coming down from the A League, might have an edge in that department, but at times it was a wide gap and, once Gallagher was sent off, they were lucky to keep it to five.
The irrepressible Stevie Gavin linked superbly with Ronan O’Boyle up front, Andy Neary and Ger O’Boyle provided a wonderful dynamic down the left flank, and players like Declan Flynn and James Minogue give Celtic a solid look at the back. Flawless they were not and Manulla had a couple of decent chances in the first half. But when Stevie Gavin made it 2-0 on 29 minutes, you sensed the game was up for Paul Large’s side. Nine minutes earlier they took the lead when Gavin was taken down in the box by a combination of Cillian McGlade and Damien Coleman. James Minogue came forward to slot home the kick with ease. The second goal was a thing of beauty. Ger O’Boyle’s left-side corner found Gavin just outside the box, and he took the ball on his chest before volleying into the corner of the net. Manulla nearly pulled one back before the break when Jonny Griffin’s well-hit free from the left corner had Gary Byrne in trouble, but he managed to claw a hand to it to take it off Roger Clarke’s head. Damien Coleman struck a free-kick just wide, but most of the traffic was in front of James Jennings’ goal. Celtic made it three on 56 minutes when they clinically exploited Manulla’s inability to clear. It was that man Gavin who pounced on the error, and when it seemed like he was going to finish, he squared unselfishly for Ronan O’Boyle to fire home.
Nine minutes later, Manulla were down to ten men when David Gallagher picked up his second yellow card. It was extremely harsh. Celtic’s Stevie Ryan appeared to foul Gallagher, but referee Pat Foley thought otherwise, and the second yellow compounded the surprise of the Manulla players.
But it didn’t affect the result, merely the margin. Three became four on 73 minutes. Gavin’s corner was headed goal wards by Ryan only to be blocked by Shane Moran. But it only fell to Ioseph Reilly who struck the ball with venom into the roof of the net. Two minutes later and it was 5-0. Initially Reilly squared for Gavin, whose header was superbly saved by James Jennings. But Manulla failed to clear their lines and Gavin slipped in the right channel and dinked the ball across for Ronan O’Boyle to head home. It meant Gavin was involved centrally in each of the five goals and he set up new signing Theron Coghill with an adroit little flick to put the ex-Ballyheane man through but Jennings saved with his feet. There’s enough of a warning in 5-0 anyway. Celtic are back. Celtic G Byrne; O Cunningham, D Flynn, J Minogue, G O’Boyle; C Rowland, A McDonnell, S Ryan, A Neary; S Gavin, R O’Boyle.
Subs used: I Reilly for Rowland (h/t); T Coghill for McDonnell (76 mins); J Fallon for Gavin (83 mins)

Great start to the season for the lads and a good performance by all accounts (didn't make the game myself), and a good crowd to boot! 150 was what I heard! Not sure how true it is but I'd like to think it's a good guess!
