Salthill 2-0 Fanad FT
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.
Seriously? There are 7 clubs around the pale ffs. Thats 14 trips across the country on a friday evening trying to make a 745 kick off, 14 friday afternoons that you have to try and take off early from work, 14 fills of juice for your car you can ill afford......... I'm neither self employed nor flush with cash, I have to pick and choose any away game I go to carefully
Yep, should have been three or four up at HT but we dropped a gear or two and let them back into it. Athlone couldn't handle Cowan at all, resorting to fouling him most of the time, excellent strike for his goal and a nice free kick from Walsh for the first. Coffey got Athlone's goal.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.
salthill 2 fanad 0, salthill had a penalty saved by paul given in the first half but went ahead soon after, quick counter attack of a fanad free kick. second half fanad battered them but couldnt score, salthill got the 2nd in injury time with given (and everyone else) up for a corner the forward lobbed him as he tried to make it back to his own net. very young fanad team, if they get a couple of older heads back involved they might do ok in the A champ
Havin a weekend away is quite frankly, lettin ur team mates down!
Bray 0-2 Saints
Should have been more, We dominated most of the game, Had a strong-ish side out, Stand out performances for me were Daryl Kavanagh and Jordon Keegan
Here on a technicality.
Dublin is half an hour from Sligo with Aer Arann on a Friday evening. For the price of a 3 hour car/bus/train journey. Most of the Dublin based grounds are within 30 minutes of the airport. Drogheda is another half hour away, Dundalk a few minutes more. You can be in Sligo at 6pm and still make ko in Bray. You also have an extra 15 minutes to get to Tallaght. And you don't need taxis from the airport either.Originally Posted by bingoballs
I hate playing Fridays as well, but if you're resourceful, there's lots of ways and means of getting to games that save time and money.
They were all squeezed in to the biggest attendance at any game that weekend.Originally Posted by Nah Nah Nah Nah

Who needs a return flight? The deadline is the ko, not getting home.Originally Posted by osarusan

As I say, there's ways and means of getting there and saving money, even if you're on a budget. It's difficult certainly, but not impossible.

45 euro one way according to their website. You may say that there are ways of saving money, but a flight clearly isn't one.
Oh.My.God.
It costs €92 to go to Dublin this Friday and back the next day. The flight leaves at 6.15, in Dublin at 7. Takes at least an hour to get through airport and to a Dart station, that's 8pm. Then depending on what time you get the Dart at it could be 8.45 before you arrive in Bray. You see one half of the match and have to stay in a hotel for the night in Bray/ Dublin costing about €50. Food, tickets etc.
So you pay about €150 to see one half of a game in Bray.
As for your half an hour to Drogheda from Dublin and just over a half hour to Dundalk on a Friday night...![]()

A good crowd went to Derry probably alot on the back of the final . Still contributed to a good atmosphere and so might encourage some to return . When new or not so often fans go the idea would be to give them a reason to return so imo facilities would be a big plus . entertainment on the field but also off the field . Maybe back to Sunday afternoon or Saturday night . Hotels in the area could put on football specials with entertainment after game or something . bus trips can be fun (not dooley at final but proper buses ) for parents and kids , songs etc . Shams crowd at Showgies would have contributed to great atmosphere and these are the chances to convince the odd timers too return . A lot of people are (from what I read ) putting a huge voluntary effort in so hopefully it will pay off and crowds return . I'm sure its not easy for a lot of people these days what with low funds and/or worry about job so big away support from anyone should be appreciated but smaller efforts count too .
Would having more Saturday night games not make sense? The only thing they'd clash with would be Spanish football on Sky and far more convenient for travelling fans. Certainly among the bigger teams like last week's Sligo-Rovers clash. Perhaps it's not great for TV but we don't get much of that anyway.
if sligo rovers fans had to travel only between 30-60 minutes to the majority of away games we'd take hundreds every week. takes at least 3 hours to get to any ground apart from derry and galway for us.
loved the post about the aer arann flight. brilliant
