    DCFC 3 Waterford 1

What a difference a win makes
Last night's performance was pretty unrecognisable with Friday's disaster.
Giller said that they'd have to improve 100% and fight for their places and that's exactly what they did.
Even in the periods when Waterford had the upper hand, we tackeld and defended much more convincingly than the Pats game and took our chances when they came.
The win is even more welcome considering how many players were playing out of position due to injuries, and that it was achieved playing 4-4-2.
We still have room for improvement, we gave Waterford 2/3 chances that we could have been punished for on another night, but nevertheless it's a huge 3points to take.

Congrats to Dom Tierney and Pierre Ennis for getting off the mark, two excellent finishes. (not to forget Philly Hughes who's now our top scorer)
I'd never seen City score three goals in a game before last night...nor had I seen 6 additional minutes added at the end of a second half!

    Nice one lads, well done.
Keep it up and you have a real chance of staying up.
SPA and Derry are a shambles at the moment, but things might turn around for them soon with the new management.

Don't think anyone will be getting carried away with themselves after last nights game, but it does show a marked improvement in our play over the last month or so, on the most part.
Pats looked hungry and keen to impress under their new manager, and I would expect the same once Derry find a replacement, I wouldn't expect Giller to let any of the team think that it'll be an easy touch to overtake either team.

Oh yeah, I was under the assumption that Pierre Ennis scored the 3rd last night, but elsewhere people seem to be saying that it was Ray Scully...

I was at the game and must say ye deserved the victory. There was some lovely football played and ye got two great goals.

But I must say the crowd was shocking. It's a bad sign when I was actually able to count how many supporters were there, 164 for a premier division game, ye are a disgrace

Gill pays tribute to Vikings’ response

Gill pays tribute to Vikings’ response

    June 2, 2004

Dublin City manager John Gill has paid tribute to the response of his side in Monday night’s eircom League Premier Division victory over high-flying Waterford United at Tolka Park.

The Vikings went into the game on the back of what Gill described as their worst performance of the campaign, in a 3-1 defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers St Patrick’s Athletic last Friday night.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

We're hardly a disgrace, we go out & support our team & do our best. The disgrace is lack of money/support from the FAI & the Government. Our crowds are compared with teams like Bohs & shels who have been around over a hundred years. Even the league Champions have a poor following.
