Could be they wanted to put Wales-NI on the Saturday, but had to move it to Friday because of the CL Final.Originally Posted by oriel

Is this a bi-/annual tournament or what's the story?
Assume there'll be an assessment of the whole thing, soon?
Still though SS is right if you want to have this competition you have to have England.
what was the crowd for ROI v NI? The home nations used to be a decent comp. but ultimatly only Eng v Scots mattered so here you could add Ireland . Wales V NI Im sure would never draw anyone in Dublin. Maybe if you could add England and drop them (wales,ni) you might have a fun competition , could possibly lure France in too. I would think that would be an interesting foursome. As to LOI games why not lengthen the season a week and have that week as a break.
Back on topic, Irish Times reported 1,800 for Dundalk v Derry as opposed to 1,600 estimate on dundalkfc.com, not sure what you want to go with PS.
#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), only Irish club to win a game / points in Europa League Group Stage (2016).
Because they already have a stupid break in the season
In no way am I arguing that the competition is anything but terrible, but whether England were present or not, wouldn't affect the crowd for NI v Wales.
It was basically free to Irish people, and less than 300 Irish people turned up for it. England's participation is irrelevant
(Oh and 'friendly' tournaments are stupid anyway...)

your right of course about englands participation not affecting the ni v wales crowd.
I would hazard a guess that Irl v Eng (even a friendly) would always get a full house though.
The home nations was anything but friendly though and bragging rights between English and Scots was fiercly faught for.
There is also the fact that Ireland dont qualify for most competitions so something might be nice.
I would have thought friendlys would be good for gelling teams and/or trying out new stuff. If they priced it right and had decent teams it could be good to watch.
It certainly shouldnt affect LOI schedule so at end of season perhaps?
Hi all,
If there is anyone or Carrick United fans out there who can tell what the crowd at the Munster Cup Final against Limerick United was?
Northern Ireland and Wales could've played in the Tallaght Stadium. They might have gotten a bigger crowd for the novelty of the first international friendly in the ground. I don't want to go off topic but I don't think England are needed. The most England might want is a one off home nations tournament the year after next for some reason. The idea was to give friendly games more of an edge. They should use the proper international friendly dates for the games, play home & away and leave it at that.
I think there's a flaw in international football that generally there is only two competitions to compete in. When 24 countries start making the European Championships, there might be less games to qualify for it. It'll create space for another credible international tournament as to what that is, it's up to the powers that be.
The LoI schedule anyways should not have been affected by this tournament. The N Irish v Welsh game could've been a curtain raiser for Boh's v UCD in Dayler as Shamrock hadn't a home game.

A Championship: 4 years - 8 first teams - 0 financially ruined. First Division '14: 7 first teams.
Opportunity lost for new clubs/regions to join the LoI family.
Change? Dundalk simply reverted to their pre-2009 night for the game.Originally Posted by oriel
