    574 at Limerick v Longford.

Also, I hate to be one of those people, but the attendance at Limerick v Salthill ended up being 509, not the 468 on here. There was a problem with scanners on a batch of tickets or some nonsense...

Galway United's biggest competition for support is not from Salthill Devon nor Mervue United. It is from Connacht Rugby. The floodlight pylons at the Sportsground can be seen from Terryland. Many floating/fickle supporters will chose one over the other when both are playing at the same time. Next Friday, Connacht host Edinburgh at the same time as Sligo Rovers are playing against Galway Unitd in Terryland Park.

Theoretically, Salthill Devon and Mervue make it difficult for Galway United to sign local players but ultimately both clubs are nurturing players. This will of course stop if Galway United were to be relegated and/or Salthill/Mervue were to be promoted.

Interestingly, on Monday 28th March, all three Galway LOI clubs will be at home at the same time in the EA League Cup. This is a further testimony to the craziness.

And just to put you in the picture, the Galway GAA footballers were at home in the 30,000 capacity Pearse Stadium a few weeks ago in a relegation dogfight. The attendance, according to a local newspaper, was a mere 600.
Nobody knows us, we don't care

Will that actually make any difference? If you follow GU, you're gonna go to the GU game. Same for Salthill and Mervue..

It probably won't make a difference. It's interesting though that we're all playing teams from the north west (Cockhill, Harps and Derry).

minimum of a difference, there is a lot of gufc supporters from mervue and salthill, some of them will support there housing estates footbal club, others will follow gufc. Attendance at these matches will be very poor tonight anyway as will all ties in the competition at the very early stages.

It's hard to tell, the seating wasn't segregated, so most of the stand was a big mixture.

I think UCD could do more to promote the games around the campus. I met up with two mates who both study there before the game, neither of them knew UCD were playing. One of them didn't even know they had a team in the PD.

Very poor attendance? 1100 on a Monday night, after being at home on Saturday and heading for Galway on Friday? i think not. It's not so long ago that we wouldn't have had that for an FAI match.

In comparison to our usual crowds it is very poor, I understand why its poorer crowd but still doesnt change the fact its a poor crowd.

I'd say there was about 150 bray fans or maybe even a bit more in ucd, crowd was mainly made up of the kids playing at half time and their parents..

I think thats a bit harsh thats its dying, maybe from some of the Northern clubs point of view, but we have certainly enjoyed it so far. Also if we make the final and lose it, we`ll pick up more money than comign 3rd ion our own league, so its also a very worthwhile competition for us, marginal travel costs too, actually I`d say we`ll make more money from Setanta this year than one game in Europe.

Attendances are always going to suffer a little due to the Monday night games, but I really hope its continued for many seasons to come. I think Wed nights would suit better, what you`ll lose with any clashes to Champs lge on TV etc, you`ll more than gain for having it on the better night.

#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), first Irish club to win points in a group stage in Europe (2016).

Yeah, but you're the only club to have embraced it this year.

Rovers have got well over 5,000 to each league game and got 750 at a cut price Setanta game. Sligo's crowd was halved for their Setanta game. Pats crowd was less than half.

The competition really lost its momentum when they start fiddling about with dates, and when the TV company lost interest in it, that was that.

I can't see it lasting beyond this year. Shame as it started off so positively

I really think that by over milking the competition they bled the interest.
Seems more like a chore than a novelty anymore.
Like Dodge said it is a shame because it started off so well and had lots of potential.
