Around 2,200 in the Showground plus 50 or 60 from Drogheda.

Nobody knows us, we don't care
Mervue Utd V Shelbourne I estimate 350 on dugout side and behind the city side goals, About 130 shels and another 90 home fans on the sullivan park side Including kids. They also have a lot of club members mingling around the clubhouse . Nice atmosphere plenty of GUFC supporters up there as well, enjoying the fix of footie and the updates bringing smiles from ear to ear, fantastic night weatherwise

how much are tickets at Mervue, and any idea how many (if any) would have gotten in free ?
do mervue have a big youth team set up like Salthill Devon ?
Season Tickets €75, entry is €10 for adults €5 for students, youths etc, Kids free. Club Members are required to pay in, and they have sold nearly 300 season tickets. A lot of people who grew up or are retired from or living in the area would buy a season ticket to support the clubs efforts as it has provided very long term, stable amenities and outlets for the youth over the last 40-50 years. There are probably a lot of season ticket holders lapsed club members and would not necessarily attend games.

Well i couldnt walk 3 yards without being stopped by regular attendees at Terryland, Opinions differ but i believe it creates more loi experienced players in the region, it has definitely galvanised GUFC supporters to get more involved in gufc because of the competition, and Salthill are no mugs either give them a few years and they will get the measure of the league. Although drom seems far out because of the directions they are giving for ease of access. There must be 25000 people living just the south side of drom soccer park between Rahoon, Knocknacarra, Barna and Salthill
RTE has our game down as 1,426, Extratime says 700:/ My guess would be 1,800
Here on a technicality.
is there much of a rivalry with salthill from pre-LOI days, or would both clubs be far more interested in a game against Galway Utd ?
would Salthill and Mervue have the strongest youth set ups in Galway (compared to GUFC and the teams in the local league) ?
There were 5 of us at the limerick game!
1,400 odd is the right figure. About 150 from Dundalk.
54,321 sold - wws will never die - ***

New blog if anyone's interested - http://loihistory.wordpress.com/
LOI section on balls.ie - http://balls.ie/league-of-ireland/
There was about 700 tonight in Waterford I'd guess, with around 20 Harps fans!
I'm sure there'd be a bit of a rivalry between the two.
And yeah, they have the strongest youth set ups. The likes of Galway Hibs and Renmore have produced LOI players too though.
To be honest, I'm glad to see Mervue getting decent crowds and results. I can't ever really see Salthill matching them though. Their location is awful. There are houses and flats all around Fahy's Field and you could walk or get a bus there from the city centre. There is no public transport to Drom and the roads out there are terrible. It's also a very exposed place to watch a match if it's raining which it usually is.
Derry City V Shamrock rovers 3,340 I've been told.
About 400 away fans.
So if you think Bohs are big read this. http://www.astronomy.ie/perpespective.html
Theres no real rivalry between the 3 clubs except of coarse the junior clubs wanting to get one over GUFC. Both Salthill and mervue are well established clubs ( founded over 50 years ago both of them) with salthill once saying they have 500+ playing member and mervue with 400+ playing members with both clubs having youth academys starting from the ages of 8 years old. Other large junior/youth clubs in the town would be renmore, Galway hibs, Galway bohs, West utd and corrib rangers to name a few as well as clubs in the county like Athenry, Dynamo Blues etc. but none of these clubs have training grounds like salthil and mervue.
GUFC have nothing really, but with the GUST now running the club they are going to look for an area in the city to set up a youth academy like the 2 biggest local clubs and build from there.
