    Galway (Pre-Season)

Wexford beat Galway two-nil in breezy Ferrycarrig today on a bumpy reserve pitch in what was a low-key friendly. Wexford started Packie, Karl Keogh, Anto, Wolfie, Murt, Shane Nolan, Craig (?), Greg Yelverton, Ben Ryan and Muzzi and Danny up front. Galway had an early chance when their lively No. 9 got clear on the right but he shot high and wide while on the run. Wexford then hit the cross-bar from a looping cross and then went ahead when another cross reached Shane Nolan. His first shot was blocked but the rebound fell nicely and he tucked it away.

Second goal from Wexford came shortly after when a cross from the right found Ben Ryan on the left and he put it away from an acute angle when you would have expected the Galway keeper to do better. Packie then pushed a header over the bar right before the blow for two-nil to Wexford at half-time. Second half was a tame affair although Galway should have scored early on but Packie got down well to keep the first shot out and the second was cleared off the line by a Youths defender. Game then petered out although Galway came more into it as Youths brought on the subs.

Wexford subs were Patsy (see him starting) for Greg, David Grincell for Muzzi, Eoin O'Shea for Ben, Robert Dempsey, Killian Murphy and Jamie Fox (?). Sean Allen came on as reserve keeper for Packie with a few minutes to go and had to grab a Galway free-kick at the second attempt.

Overall, Youths remind me of their first season, a hard-working young side which will struggle to get goals with a lot of pressure on two young players like Danny and Muzzi up front. Sean Connor has a lot of work on his hands to bring Galway up to premier standard and look shaky in defence on crosses and little to offer in centre midfield where Wexford seemed stronger in the tackle.
