vs Lisburn Distillery - Setanta Cup

Going to give this it's own thread to get the specific game talk going. Kick-off is 7.45pm in Dalymount, which should make for an interesting situation as it was the only ground accessible from the bus route most associated with UCD the 10 (which has been discontinued).

There will be a liveblog for anyone that cares at Action81.com and we're getting in touch to find out the web access situation at Lisburn Distillery's own ground to hopefully ensure there is one for the away leg too.
Check out my new sports blog http://www.action81.com

The number 10 is gone? Wow.

Distillery's ground is a greyhound stadium as well, so there should be more than just basic facilities there.

There'll be highlights of both games later on UCDAFCTV obviously.

Distillery drew 2-2 with Ballinamallard today in the Irish Cup. It was a strange day - Dunmurry Rec and H&W Welders drew with Linfield and Portadown - but still, it's an extra game for Distillery when they're swamped already, and a sign that they're maybe not that great, even in season. We've a definite chance here.

Have variously seen that the q/f draw hasn't been made yet, or that the winner faces Rovers.

Bit meh overall. Started out slow, but we got on top for the last 15 of the first half. Thought we were going to kick on and win it in the second half, but credit to Distillery -they came out much stronger for the second half and had the better chances to win. Think the draw was fair enough though. We were much better technically; they were much bigger and stronger. Glen Ferguson can still rough it at 41, as Nangle knows now! Didn't get a copy of the game file - hope to sort that on Thursday, and will do highlights up over the weekend.

Still very much 50/50 as to who'll go through.

Yeah, that's a pretty fair assessment in my books.

Distillery lost 4-2 to Ballinamallard in their Cup replay on Monday. They're away to Dungannon on Saturday and then home to us on Monday. So [cliché] they're beatable anyway[/cliché]

    Ho hum.

Even (and poor) enough game last night; an appalling ref was the difference between the sides ultimately -

We had more of the ball bar for the first half after the goal, but didn't really create anything with it. Had a couple of driven crosses that we were agonisingly close to connecting with, but that was about it. Still played nice stuff, passed it around, etc, etc, but no real cutting edge. Could be another 2008 for us, albeit with Galway, Drogheda and Bohs to finish below us/go bankrupt.

Ger played well bar one Rene Higuita moment; Haro gets forward quite well and O'Callaghan (who I assume is the same Ger O'Callaghan as was with us three or four years ago) injected a bit of pace and urgency on the left wing. Defence won a good amount in the air and Ferguson barely got a sniff of the ball, which was encouraging against a physically bigger team; going to need to be tight at the back this year.

Highlights of this one are going to be dodgy cos the tripod was broken and there was no real camera area in the ground. Picked up a disc of the home leg as well, but can't get it working yet. Going to try fix that again on Friday.

Hard to really tell from last night how we'll do on Friday. Going on Drogheda's pre-season results, I'd be hoping for a similar result to our pre-season (relatively comfortable wins against First Division opposition). Not looking forward to playing either of the Rovers though.

Terrible decision by the ref there. Clearly not a penalty and he had a great view of it.

    Good sound effects though.

Yeah, I left the clip run just to catch that.

Good D4 accents on them too; nice to hear.
