Galway United had to come up with €1,700 and a piece of paper and got no extension, Limerick had to come up with 200,000 and did get an extension. Fair play the FAI way!

Limerick had a condition attached to the awarding of their licence and were given four days to deliver on it. Limerick submitted all documentation that was required with their application.

Galway failed to submit vital pieces of documentation with their application. The fact they didn't have a Tax Clearance Certificate meant that they had monies due to the Revenue Commissioners. All 20 other clubs had their TCC in on time - when should Galway get an extension on time to deliver theirs?

Big difference between the Galway and Limerick situations. Limerick delivered everything they were asked for, but the FAI asked for subsequent guarantees over and above what was in the Licensing document. Galway failed to submit a completed application with all their relevent documents.

I would imagine the vast majority of clubs owe money to Revenue. Not having a tax clearance cert DID NOT mean we owed money, as it had been paid over, it meant that the cert was not issued on time

Congrats to Galway! Good to have you back.

Feel sorry for Mons again though.

Are Galway getting a Premier or a First Division licence though? (If the rumours are true)

I would have assumed that if they were successful it would be a Premier license, given that the TCC meant no 1st or Premier license.

I could be jumping the gun here though......

It was a black and white case. Won, and they got their Premier Licence, if they lost it was the 'A' League.

It's great to see Galway back in the Premier, but for me it's another fudge from the FAI. Why have deadlines when quite simply they don't apply.

    From GUST forum:

FAI CONFIRM GALWAY UNITED FC SUCCESSFUL IN CLUB LICENSING APPEAL

The Independent Club Licensing Appeals Body met this morning to consider Galway United’s appeal of the decision of the Independent Club Licensing Committee not to award the club a Premier Division Licence.

The Appeals Body noted that it is essential to good governance in football that all required documentation is supplied by its due date and in this particular case, they recognise that the onus was on the club to produce the appropriate evidence to the Club Licensing Committee.

The Appeals Body acknowledge that the tax affairs of the club were and are in order and it was clear that the club had made attempts to secure the appropriate documentation but due to exceptional events were unable to provide it on the date required.

Given the full circumstances that pertain to this case, the Appeals Body overturned the decision of the Club Licensing Committee and awarded a League Licence – Premier Division to Galway United FC.

Yup, it is official, back in Premier Division. Feel sorry for Monaghan fans who had got their hopes up, but obviously delighted with the news. Fans now run the club, hopefully the club's darkest days are behind it now
