so many shocking players in the team....the next manager just has to forget about the hacks like whelan and andrews and paul green...squad players at best hopefully

We're not arrogant, we're just better.

Is ths the most uninspiring friendly we've ever played? I'm thinking of our 0-0 with Wales in 1997, the defeat to Northern Ireland in 1999, and our 0-0 with Poland in 2004. If the second half is anything like the first, I think we may have a new winner.

p.s i think its weird how its taken ppl so long 2 realise how bad players like glenn whelan are.....most of the players trap has capped are just terrible footballers....whelan isnt the worst for that ur lookin at paul green/keith andrews..hopeless hopeless players

Poland 04 was the worst ever I think. Worse than this.

James McCarthy tried to take part and Trap had him thrown out of the stadium.

At least the Guardian seem to be enjoying it:

These squads have been hit by more withdrawals than an ATM at a hackers' convention but tonight's match still contains more intrigue than, um, a hackers' convention. How will Wales play under new manager Gary Speed? Will Irish debutants Séamus Coleman and Ciarán Clark pull of the delicate trick of being skilful enough to impress Giovanni Trapattoni but not so skilful as to make him suspicious and resentful?
To really stoke excitement, organisers have decided to spread the tournament out over several months. Get your diaries out and prepare to cancel that massage appointment if need be...
: Out toddle the teams. Owing to the FAI's extravagant pricing policy most seats are empty. Well done lads.
The Welsh tune is followed by a perkier-than-usual blast of Amhrán na bhFiann. The tens of people who know all of the words croon along.
Let us pause to catch our breath. Or, to be more precise, get reanimated. For this is a slow burner. Or maybe just a flaming waste of time.
For some reason this match has got me thinking about my own bleakest experience on a pitch.

football can be so beutiful....but when two horrible teams go face to face it really can be so ugly....i guess its teams like this that make us appreciate the likes of barcelona and even blackpool all the more....so in a lot of ways these 2 teams crapness is for the good of the game

and then gibson scores with a thing of beuty....got 2 love football

Is he the first guy to score for Ireland whose first name ends with the last two letters of his last name?

    Just asking like.
