    Singapore Chewing Ban Eased

Ultra-tidy Singapore has lifted its notorious ban on chewing gum after 12 years – but only for registered users. Gum dealers face jail if they break the rules.

Before Singaporeans think about unwrapping a pack of the Wrigley’s Orbit gum that has just gone on sale – and only in chemists – they have to submit their names and ID card numbers.

If they don’t, chemists who sell them gum could be jailed up to two years and fined €2,400.

Wouldn't mind seeing tighter rules on gum here.
The streets are covered with the stuff.
Added to the fag butts, the country looks like a tip!
How many people here have got gum on their clothes from a bus/train seat?

It won't be long before the beautiful paving stones on Patrick Street are destroyed with the stuff.

Now if someone could invent a machine to remove chewing gum that doen't alter the colouration of the underlying stonework they would be made for life.
don't worry, they couldn't hit an elephant at this dis......

I'm so looking forward to the day when PD goes to take over LT.
You'll looking for sympathy from the rest of us.
€20 says you'll believe him when he says LT are the biggest club in Ireland with the best fans.

Religious extremists are always harsh on any form of fun. Sure don't some Christians not allow sport because it's a waste of the time that God gave ye?

Singapore is not too far wrong with those controls on chewing gun, mind.

If he stops talking the smokescreen will fade and it will be glaringly obvious that he can't manage.

agree with ya there. its disgusting. a good start would be to have more bins- compared to other countries there are very few bins on the street in Ireland.

Ye never lay off us, do ye Housty?
I'm on about those nutcase Christians, I think most of them are Americans. They believe that everything ye do must be to serve God. Sport doesn't serve God. Apparently.

And don't get us started on Stalin again. I'm not a fan of his.

Not at all Dortie, Remember Jonathan Edwards wouldn't compete on a Sunday due to his religious beliefs and he's Anglican/Church of England. And I remember getting into trouble at primary school when I wouldn't turn up for the main mass choir duty because of sport.

Pretty much the only difference between Anglican and Roman Catholic is the Eucharist. Anglican's believe the bread and wine symbolises the body and blood of Christ, RC believe it is the body and blood of Christ. Pretty much everything else, including the actual mass is the same.

Try going to a Church of Ireland service and see for your self.

Fair dues to Edwards for putting his religious beliefs first.
