If you get €40k per annum from your job. Go into your bosses office and argue you don't get paid €40k per annum because you get taxed so it shouldn't be in your contract you get paid €40k per annum when you don't go home with that amount and see how quickly you get laughed out of the office.
The FAI, or Endemol Sports, whoever, are parting with €1,000 to the players individually. Tax, blah, blah, they're getting paid €1,000.
Oooooooooh.... zing!
i hope RICO takes all the marbles and dobbers out of his mouth before pre match talks,or no one will understand him; on the plus side maybe it would be better if they dont.

The Irish guys should just refuse to break a sweat.
They are getting 1,000, the presumption from the article quoted earlier being that it will be taxed at the higher rate of tax(and therefore they have earnings of at least 32k a year) so they will actually get 480 euro net.
The second offer wasnt a massive improvement on the first.
That's assuming the FAI deduct tax at source. Perhaps the players have a contract for service that might enable them to reduce the tax liability using expenses (50c for the electricity meter in Wanderers, €1.65 for the bus there, 99c for a bottle of shower gel, €40 for a can of petrol and a taxi to FAI HQ...).
John Russell Danny Ventre and John Dillon added to the squad
