I think that’s a harsh assessment of where Coleman is at. IMO he is still among the best right fullbacks in the Premier League and still has plenty of pace.
Not a great day for him (unlucky OG and beaten by a running guy much bigger than him when he was defending from a standing position).
He is Everton’s captain for a reason and the suggestion that he could lose his place is ridiculous as far as I’m concerned.
I felt he was looking back to himself recently as well. Clearly a bad night last night but I agree it was more unfortunate than anything. He criticised his own performance at Old Trafford recently as a show of support to Jordan Pickford after the Anfeild error. I didn't see the full game but in the highlights he looked good in an attacking sense, but apparently Martial gave him a tough time at the other end.
Its just that we have no friendlies to prepare and learn and we know for a fact Seamus can play there, Matt hasn't played right wing ( wing back is totally different, as you know)
We will learn nothing from the Gibraltar game and we are straight into the Georgia game, which will be massive
That's fair enough. I don't see anything positive about having Doherty right full and Coleman in front of him on the right side of a 5 in midfield or vice versa. They are both full backs that's where they should play and Doherty has shown fine ability to play left full. Either in an advanced wide midfield/attacking role will minimise our potential for creativity. Brady, Robinson, judge, o dowda, mcgeady even Horgan all offer miles more creative potential on the right of a five man midfield.
Maybe it is ridiculous but every everton fan I hear on talksport seems to say that right full and main striker are the Two positions they want to see streghtened in Jan to break into the top 6(cant see them getting top six really). He would be lost in midfield for us in my opinion and that would be unfair on a fine servent
Honestly Doherty is playing so far forward he's basically a winger. He's a great athlete, his crossing is good, and he makes good off the ball runs into the box. He's also shown an eye for goal. Shortly before scoring the winner, he came very close to scoring only to be denied by a pretty good save. Could easily have had two goals while playing as a wingback.
I appreciate there are nuances to the two positions and not every player can perform in both roles -- but based on what I've seen I think Doherty could be a winger. It's his excellent off the ball running that pushes me into thinking it could work.
I generally back the view Coleman should play at right fullback and Doherty then be deployed as a winger or at left fullback (assuming Coleman is available).
I think he meant wide midfielder rather than out and out winger.
He just dropped out of the top ten with a below par performance at Fulham but got a good rating at Spurs following that with an assist, it is a tough job maintaining such a high rating you need to be performing well pretty much every game.

Assist v Spurs
Dropped today? Their full backs have been outstanding today
Ah. It's a bit dramatic to assume he was dropped. He's played more than anyone and has been in good form. It's clearly just a rest.
Did not have a good game v Man City.

You'll find whatever you're looking for on Twitter, to be fair.
All I can find is talk of a move to Liverpool.
