I think the only team you can truly say that about is Rovers, everyone else has just rested a few players and largely used the first team squad.

Cockhill were using the INishowens leagues headquarters for the day. Nice little compact ground with little stand on one side and dressing room complex on the other. From what I could gather there is a little bit of rivalry, with Buncrana Hearts being the town favorites and Cockhill being their country cousins.

Danny Murphy sent off for dissent apparently. No Mark McNulty and no Danny Murphy for Longford now.

Danny could be out for Shels aswell depending if the referee includes the incident in his match report.
He was given a straight red for showing dissent towards the referee.

Hopefully we'll get a good draw in the quarter finals.

    EDIT

Danny will only miss the next EA Sports Cup game .

I'd say there's very little between Shels' and Bohs' first teams now.

I'd definitely say we've the better squad, probably just shade it on first 11s too, but as is said above, we have to earn our place in the Premier Division before we can properly start comparing our side to the teams in it.

Pats made 8 changes from Friday. The only 3 to survive were Sean Stewart (who made his season debut on Friday as late call up) and our centre halves (who wouldn't have played today if we had anyone else that could play there)

Subs bench was mostly first teamers

    About 8/900 at the game.
    We was poo-er.

For some reason Sligo and Derry seem to take this competition very seriouly (Longford too in their glory years). I suppose it can be used as a stepping stone, but the big medels are given out at the end of the season.

Winning a first divison title would be worth its weight in gold compared to the league cup.

We were poor again its just Cockhill were so unbelieveably bad, how Galway lost to them I will never know.
No way was there 2500 there, like other posters said about 1000 id say.

We usually field a reserve side in the League Cup, but "only" made five changes last night (McGinley, Belhout, Benson, Russell and Harding, who was coming back from injury and is our first-choice right back normally). Twas more about giving some of the fringe lads a run-out with the first-team.

Benson in particular was impressive, I'm told (couldn't make it up myself); following on from a cracker of a goal on Friday, it seems he's going to be pushing for a regular starting spot now that he's back from injury. Drogs' goals were offside and farcical respectively; apparently we were much better and let them back into it through defensive lapses. Their second goal was Mervue-esque - full-back took a free in our own half, knocked it back to the keeper, who put his hand on it and took the free again. Free in, from which they scored. Would like to have seen that one!

(For the record, as it wasn't mentioned here yet, we won 3-2 with a goal in injury time. Second time in this season's League Cup that we've done that)

We only had two players who played on Friday in the team yesterday.

The rest of the team was mostly A League/U-20 Players as only Friars and McBride would be considered "first teamers".
Tifo poles, sausage rolls and a few goals.

imo rightly so, should you risk injury/booking/loss of energy for the next league match.

As a result the League cup has much less prestige.

Is the cup worth keeping - imo very much so, one of the greatest loi games (lc cup wise) ive see was the pats v longford final 2003

What should the fai do increase the prize fund...........what will they do ............who knows!!!

I was merely responding to your point about us taking it seriously. We may not be fielding a first team but SK is taking it very serious, anyone who witnessed SK's half time team talk at Salthill would be under no illusions as regards that.

Prize fund? Right enough, the FAI Balance Sheet is in such a healthy position.......

Based on one League Cup game ? jeez, talk about delusional. Shels well deserved last nights win but kiddinfg yourself if you think Shels have a better starting X1.

It would appear they would prefer to win this sh%^e than do well in the league. I refer to Sligo here Derry have an excuse there just back up and anythings better than nothing. Apparently even with full team Sligo were still cr%p just Cockhill were terrible (according to forum reports) Still as long as no injuries its ok. Wonder if UCD will be like Bohs second half (shams 2 games) and shut Rovers down. Will be interesting to see ,as if they win Sligo season could be over (except for league cup of course which no one else wants).
