sligo rovers friendly is definitely not going ahead this season. pity..

so wait, we were going to have to pay for the pleasure of playing sligo rovers?? ahahahahahahahaha, let them jump! they must be doing anything for money up there these days! what kind of a ****ing bus costs 900 euro to go from sligo to longford and back for what, 6 hours? pull the other one! they would probably try and scam some of the money from the gate aswell, they have previous with that!

Former Athlone Town player Dave O'Riorden plays for them too. They lost 2-1 against Willow Park in the LSC a few weeks ago

Lost 1-0. Missed a load of chances by the looks of things from extratime's updates. Cousins out...Looked we had a few trialists involved including a couple of foreign lads and Daniel Reilly.

A bit early to be looking for Cousins head! We're first game into pre-season and Newbridge are well into their season so fitness would be on their side.....results don't matter in pre-season really. I remember last season Newcastle got hammered 5-1 at Leyton Orient and went on to stroll the Championship.

I was joking! Come on now, I thought that'd be obvious. I've never been one to take pre season overly seriously. I'm sure it was a useful work out. Roll on the rest of the games.

Town played pretty well last night. Newbridge took the lead after 15 mins when ex town player Dean Barrett hit a shot outside the box that keeper Stephen Conlon couldnt hold over the line. Town had a variety of triailists there last nite. The trialists that impressed were Paddy Collins who is six foot five and formed a solid defensive partnership with Barbados international Barry Skeete.Alvin rouse oozed authority in defence and at one stage launched a huge throw from inside his penalty area that landed past the centre circle! ?Daniel Reilly also impressed when he came on.. Des Hope didnt really stand out for me yet but its early days.

Of the triailists that played Graeme Dowling who was no 2 used to play for St Pats. No 6 was Peter Szcerbowski who is polish and livin locally in town and plays for longford celtic. massop 10 can tell you about him as he used to coach him at longford celtic. he may need a few games to get into it. Jack Morley from Crumlin started at no 7 and is very nippy. Austin Skelly at no 9 was excellent for us upfront . He seems a bit of a character and could fast develop into a town favourite. He was the goalkeeper when me and massop 10 took part in that penalty shootout in Lissywollen!

The no 18 was a Y Bentole who was another trialist that I have no information about. Anthony Costigan used to play for Monaghan Utd last season and was no 20. As for the opposition , Seanie Francis is training with them and wasnt involved last nite. I had a great chat to him before the game and he greatly regrets leavin us years ago! John Paul McDonagh limped off injured after a few minutes and Dean Barrett also played from the start. Gary Cronin is still involved with us this season as player coach.

    squad:
    1. Stephen Conlon
    2. Graeme Dowling
    3.Michael Lee
    4. Des Hope
    5. Chris Deans
    6. Peter Szcerbowski
    7. Jack Morley
    8. Mark Salmon
    9. Austin Skelly
    10. Lee Roche
    11.Aidan Roche
    12. Niall O'Reilly
    13. Barry Skeete
    14. Paddy Collins
    15. Jason Oladele
    16. Cathal Brady
    17. Daniel Reilly
    18. Y Bentole
    19. Gary Cronin
    20. Anthony Costigan
    21. Alvin Rouse
Alvin rouse is six foot six and has 25 international caps with Barry Skeete. Skeete is over for a few weeks stayin with him in Monaghan tryin to get a club ere. i was talkin to him before the game and he said that he used to play in the Argentinan League. They both are friendly with Eric Lavine whos currently playin for Oranmore Fc in the Galway league.

Sorry Longfordian...its just early last season some 'fans' on here were calling for Cousins' head when what we needed was stability in the managerial area....apologies!

Marty....would Skeete be a good signing for us or would he be looking to sign for a Premier team and is just with us for fitness reasons?
