Good Luck to Dundalk in the Final.
Having, deservedly, put out my favourites, I hope you go on to win the Cup.
The Englishmen came over in the year 2005
But little did they know that we'd planned a wee surprise
Sir David scored the winner, and Windsor Park went wild
And this is what we sang...
Hope Dundalk win it, the only set of fans who seem to actually care about the Setanta Cup this season.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.

That is a litlle too dismissive.
This competition has more ressonance to Dundalk as Belfast is as close to us as Dublin. Playing Linfield, Glentoran, and Cliftonville is natural as playing yourslves.
We are a club that is finding our feet in the top flight after a long rebuilding process. So novelty is a factor, but not the only factor.
Setanta is coming home to Dundalk

It is, but we've seen the standard of the competition in previous years. NI sides often getting hammered 5/6/7-0, regular all-LOI finals, that kind of thing. For what is supposed to be a unique cross-border competition, it offered us another two games against Sligo, and another chance to face Dundalk. Decent prize money going for it alright, but that's one of the few positives in it now.Originally Posted by Ezeikial

Have to say I'm one of many Rovers fans looking forward to it and won't use the old 'sure it's only the Setanta' if we lose. It's a competition well worth winning so why not? Probably only one or two other clubs other than Dundalk I'd pick to be ideal cup final opponents. Some great cup battles down the years between both sides.
False hope is worse than no hope. Ask Sligo.

You know lads I dont understand why anyone wouldnt want to win this competition. The money is great (better than FAI perhaps?). Its streets ahead of the miserable league cup and while of course it doesnt compare to the FAI cup in presteige again MONEY for clubs that are always claiming poverty. Anyway hope its a good final and good luck .
Ah it'll be a good un. I'm hitting up Dún Dealgan for a Fiver.
What a silly comment. it is a great cup competition. this year we have played teams who we'd never see in Oriel whose supporters have brought a different type of atmosphere and I really hope to see them again and I'd like to see the comp open to all league sides on both sides of the border because it is a great competition. I have loved every minute of the competition.
The final is going to be a great occasion and the 2 biggest teams in the country fight for the right to be All Ireland Champions (sicken the louth GAA heads) and the outcome will be Black and White :-)
I wonder if it was Sligo in the final would you be saying that.
