I think thats what happened him at the start of his Bohs career. Stuck on the wing he wasn't as involved as he felt he should be so he kinda gave up. LIkewise in 2009 for Pats, he gave up a little too quickly for my liking and didn't have a manager to motivate him

SOme might be happy to know that Coughlan is finally recovered from that assault, and is expected to sign back for Pats this week (nearly 11 months later)
Unfortunately for us/Quigley that Pats match was one of his few chances of starting up front for Bohs. Unbelievable talent when on form. I did think that the studs to ankle challenge on O'Brien last Friday was very similar to the Quigley/Coughlan one, luckily not as bad of an outcome.

Squigs is going down in Dundalk folklore, hes getting us to the Setanta Cup final near enough all on his own with his goals!!! And to think he missed the easiest chance of the season, an open goal in the six yard box v Galway but can go and smack it in from 25-35 yards out!!

I think he finally realises that this really is his last chance to make a big impression for somebody across water to take him back over.

will shamrock and/or sligo put out full teams or rest players figuring this is not such an important competition?

Thanks for that. The Cliftonville crest as your avatar could lead one to believe.........

The prize money is decent in the Setanta compared to the league and I'd imagine that both Michael O'Neill and Paul Cooke will want to qualify for the final. Shamrock Rovers have such a large squad that they will always have a strong starting line-up. Sligo also have strength in depth.

Most of the fans of the winners of that semi-final will say Setanta is a great competition, while some on the losing side will say it's not important.

Well before we win/lose I'm saying it now. It's not a great/important competition. The money is a welcome bonus yes, but it's not that important that if we're knocked out it wont really matter. Obviously I'd like to win as I want Rovers to win every competition but if we don't win this, then so be it.

I think Sligo had the same attitude for last years' semi too. Close to full strength teams out but it clearly wasn't a 'do or die' attitude.

Cameroon paper gives more coverage on the game than Irish ones .

Im nearly certain Dodge we had a very weakened team out against yee in the semi last year.
After being knocked out Cook went on record stating he wont ever do the same again and play such a weakened team in a competition we could have won.

Kelly; Whelan, Davoren, Peers, Foran; Ryan, Marshall (Dillon 64’), Amond, Doyle (Blinkhorn 64’), McCabe, Doninger.

That was the first 11. Whelan, Marshall and Doninger were the 'weak' links.

    Cheers lads.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...268308333.html

A couple of quotes from the IT article perfectly back up Sligoman's claims (and indeed others) that not everyone views it as highly as Dundalk

Pete Mahon made four changes for the match, perhaps looking to shake things up a little in the wake of Friday’s narrow defeat by Drogheda but the absence of players like Vinny Faherty or, initially at least, Dave Mulcahy suggested the Dubliners do not view becoming all-Ireland champions as their main priority.

Paul Cook’s modifications to his starting line were even more comprehensive, with just four of the 11 who took the field in Bray at the weekend featuring from the outset.

When we were at Windsor for the first leg v Linfield, I said to my mate when we went 3-1 up 'this crowd would only be as good as about 6th in our PD' he replied 'Hang on a minute, we came 6th last year' !!!!

I did think before that only Glentoran and Linfield would be PD standard in our lge, their teams this year would suggest they might only be of mid table PD standard in LOI. Whatever about that, I can tell you for certain the teams in the IL Prem from 4th place downwards are probably similar in standard to our First Div. Their FD is not even worth commenting on.

Finally re Prize money, I think a lot of teams under estimated the value, for us, we will collect more just by getting to the final than if we finished the highest we can this year in the PD (in my view which is 3rd)

Dodge did make a good point though, a lot of our teams were simply unprepared due to pre season, I know we came back 2 weeks earlier, as we had Linfield first.

    Prize money allocated as follows:
    Winner: € 50,000
    Runner-up: € 30,000
    Defeated semi-finalists: € 15,000 each
Defeated Quarter Finalists: € 10,000 each
Teams defeated in Round 1: € 7,500 each

Final probably on in Tallaght (unless Cliftonville overturn a 1-3 scoreline) and yes, I would say 3rd would be the height for our team this season.

It would have been great to have it in the Aviva but it won't be there due to the need to preserve the pitch for the Europa League final the following week. Setanta have given teams home advantage in the final before so I wouldn't see them stopping now.
